Meet Delaney Rietveld | Website & Sales Copywriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Delaney Rietveld and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Delaney, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been a creative person, but I’m not a stereotypical, chaotic creative whose room is always a mess and is always running late to things. I’m very Type A, detail-oriented, and analytical.
This means I do well in creative environments and corporate environments. I definitely could have stayed in a 9-5 and been successful, but I wasn’t happy without that creative element.
Enter: website copywriting. This career has been the perfect blend of creativity and strategy. Both my right and left brain get used plenty. Plus, I get to help other creatives make more money through their websites, so it’s a win-win-win in my book.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m Delaney, your go-to website & sales copywriter. You’ll find me writing under the brand name Dark Roast Copy Co., an homage to my love of caffeine and puns.
If you’re looking for an entrepreneurial journey of someone who just “fell into entrepreneurship” that’s definitely not me. I pursued my freelancing career in the early mornings and late nights while being burnt out from my 9-5. None of this would have happened (I wouldn’t even have been able to move to Atlanta) if I hadn’t been clear on what my goals were and worked hard to make them happen.
But now? I’ve built a business that I love, and get to spend my days writing websites for the coolest business owners you’ve ever heard of. If you end up going with me as your copywriter, chances are you have a great sense of humor, are really freaking good at what you do, and care more about being “genuine” than being “professional.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The High Museum of Art is a must. If you’re able to pop over to the Alliance Theatre for a show after, that would be perfect since it’s right next door.
I’m also a big live music person, and have been really loving venues like Eddie’s Attic and The Tabernacle lately.
For food, you’re not going to survive a trip to Atlanta without going to Arepa Mia over in Avondale Estates (empanadas? Yes please!) After that, I’d recommend perusing the several breweries over in the Avondale area as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this my coworking group: The Tortured Business Department. These gals have been listened to numerous rants, given endless encouragement, and celebrated every win with me (no matter how small.)
