We had the good fortune of connecting with De’Kira Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
What should our readers know about your business?
I don’t even know where to begin. I wear a lot of hats professionally. I have my own podcast called “Power too the Pussy” currently steaming on three platforms (Apple podcast, Spotify, Anchor podcast). I’m also a writer currently in the process of self publishing my very first book (coming soon), I also have a blog “The Proud Woman Blog”, which is a spin off of my unreleased apparel brand “Proud Woman” launching this June. I’m a creative director, I could honestly go on and on, but these are just to name a few.
I took a leap of faith, and that’s just as simple as I can put it which is why I am where I am business-wise. It wasn’t the easiest journey at all, and knowing that it isn’t easy nor will it ever be gives me motivation to keep going and pushing myself. Personally I like being challenged, so certain things are small stuff to a giant.
One of the biggest thing I’ve learned is that you have to let passion drive you. Nothing outside of that, because everything else falls suite when your truly doing what you love.
I’m proud to say that I never gave up on myself, because there were so many times I wanted to. I’m proud to say that I wake up every single morning with purpose. I want the world to know that any and everything my name is attached to will and is serving purpose to better our community. My journey is just getting started, and it’s definitely far from over.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I can’t even lie like I go out like that because I don’t. I’ve always been a homebody. Most of my friends have to beg me to go out a lot the times. If there’s ever a time I want to go out forreal, it’s very random and shock to others.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
You know what over the last year I’ve been surrounded by some amazingly, wonderful, awesome people who love and support me every step of the way. The one person I have to give recognition to is my best friend/ business partner Chelsea Gordon. She’s really been my rock, and has been holding me down. There’s a lot I could do without here, but I wouldn’t want to.
I also want to recognize a couple of more people Brianna Ellis (owner of leanintolounge) De’Qustay’Johnson (owner of De’Qustay Cocktails), and lastly Chelsea Woodly (owner of Doll Academy). Each of these amazing women have pushed me to purse things I didn’t even know I wanted to do. They put trust in me to help them with their businesses, and it’s truly been a pleasure and an honor to work with them all.
