We had the good fortune of connecting with DeJiana Reeves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeJiana, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I like to believe that my accessories help women feel comfortable being who they truly are. A part of my style has always been quirky, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve been told that I shouldn’t wear certain things or like certain things anymore. I create to let women know that you don’t have to keep yourself in the box that society says you should be in. Be yourself!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I make accessories, mostly earrings. I also make scarves, keychains, and bracelets occasionally, but my earrings are what I’m known for. My earrings are colorful, fluffy, glittery, and completely eye catching. I’m not afraid of bold. I’m not afraid of standing out. Attention is always good when it’s coming from people complimenting your style. How did I get where I am today? A lot of sweat and tears. (Not much blood thankfully). I started Artsy Black Girl back in like 2014 but continuously lost motivation because I wasn’t getting the outcome I was hoping for. It wasn’t until 2019 when I decided to take myself and my craft seriously. I had to realize that success doesn’t happen overnight. I prepared myself for a journey and I’ve been dedicated to this journey ever since. I want the world (especially my wonderful customers who support my business) to know that you are helping a little (not-so-little anymore) Artsy Black Girl reach her dreams and that I can’t say thank you enough!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a hard question. Atlanta has so much culture and excitement, it’s so hard just to choose a new place to eat! But, I’m definitely a brunch type of girl. So, we’re going to brunch. Every morning. And we’re going to try a new place everyday. Definitely have to stop by Flying Biscuit at least one of those days though. My favorite areas to hang out are Little Five Points or Ponce City Market. I just love the artsy vibe that Little Five Points gives off. You’ll always find people hustling their art out there and you might even catch a concert from local musicians. Ponce City Market is full of small business that are thriving and it just gives me so much motivation walking through there. Pop up, interactive photo experiences have been my thing lately. If there’s one in Atlanta, I’m there. I recently went to The Culture Experience and The Black Hair Experience and I loved them! For some reason I still haven’t made it to the Trap Music Museum, though. I have to fix that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mama & Auntie Connie! I get my creative flow from them. They were always helping me with school projects, (sometimes taking it over completely), and that’s where I was able to see that I naturally have creative blood flowing through my veins. My mama has definitely been a big support for me. She’s helped me so much along my entrepreneurial journey, especially giving me the push to keep going when I didn’t have the courage to continue.
