We had the good fortune of connecting with Dejá Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dejá, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have believed my whole life that a person’s work and career should revolve around things that we are passionate about. Artistry and creativity have always been fields that I not only thrive in, but are also areas that reassure me that I am making positive contributions to the world. Having always personally known that I was put on this Earth to be an artist has inspired me to pursue this as a career and work in hopes of inspiring other artists to go for what they want and live to do what they love.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a beauty content creator and professional makeup artist with specializations in fantasy, editorial, and beauty makeup. A big portion of my success and proudest achievements come from the growth of my video content on social media. Working as a content creator has definitely been an inconsistent journey however I am continuously working to overcome the challenges by keeping consistency with the art that I make and sharing it with the world. Along the way, I have learned that even when things seem to not go as planned, opportunity is always waiting to be obtained and all hard work does eventually pay off. I work in hopes of showing the world that uniqueness is beautiful and that no one should be afraid to stand out, be authentic to themselves, and try new things.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite areas to visit in and around the city of Atlanta is Downtown Decatur. The atmosphere and people of this community have such a welcoming presence and offer many different social events and eateries of all kinds. One of my favorite things that Downtown Decatur offers in terms of events are the art festivals and holiday get-togethers that take place in Decatur Square. I also really admire the amount of shops and small businesses that grow and thrive in this community with some of those shops being Boutique Karma and Squash Blossom. One of my favorite restaurants in the area includes Siam Thai restaurant as well as great dessert spots like The Cereal Lab and Lenox Cupcakes. This area always has something new to offer and can be very sociable and friendly.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a good portion of credit to my previous beauty instructor Gwynnis Mosby and the Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy of which I obtained my certifications from as a makeup artist. This academy has helped me to grow my techniques and expertise as an artists and as I am also continuously inspired by the works of Gwynnis Mosby to continue doing what I love and never stop working to develop my passion into a lifelong success.
