We had the good fortune of connecting with Deisi Reis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deisi, what’s your definition for success?
As a woman, wife and a mom running The Social Media Flower, success is achieving a balance between professional growth and personal fulfillment. It means being a role model for other women in business, while also being present and supportive for my family. Success to me is measured by the goals I achieve and people I help along the way making each victory even sweeter!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been into designing and creating content since my early 20’s when I found Shopify and Wix. I made my first website at the time just playing around to learn how to do things. I am completely self taught. I do buy Ebooks and watch some tutorials on how to learn new things but I am more of a hands on learner. Almost 10 years later and during my divorce, I decided to launch an online children’s clothing store. I chose children’s clothing because I was already a mom of 2 beautiful daughters. They loved it and were part of the whole process. I didn’t know a single thing at the time and learned every step of the way what I needed to do. From creating the website on Shopify to ordering the products overseas, invoices, shipping etc. That was a short endeavor that ended December before Covid happened. I don’t regret a single minute spent even though it didn’t work out because I learned so many things back then that helped boost my career with my company The Social Media Flower. A few months later, Covid happened and the world stopped. I thought what can I do to generate more income and has little over head costs. Then I found Canva! I realized Canva was an amazing tool and the foundation of my business with endless possibilities of creating anything.

I started reaching out to small businesses on instagram and close friends and asking if they needed website design, content for social media, business cards etc. I wasn’t afraid of failing because that’s the thing with content creation and website design, you make changes and help the clients vision come to life even if it’s not on the first try.

It only takes 1 person to believe in you and then you’re off to follow your dreams and your never look back.
One of my close friends who was in skin care industry needed everything. She was my first client for all of my services. After finalizing her services, I thought why don’t I do this for other women and small businesses as well. That’s when I started The Social Media Flower full time. Past forward to now 2024, I have had almost 200 clients for big and small services. Ive created maybe about 5,000 designs for different clients and social channels.

The most challenging part was staying motivated to keep going on the slower months as well as working through the very busy months while being a mom and having a regular day job. Multiple late nights to make deadlines but it was all worth it. This journey for me was actually very easy and that is why I kept going and stayed full time with my company. Creating just comes natural to me. I am still learning and growing my design skills to provide the best for my clients.

What sets me apart from other companies is my work ethic. I am very organized, professional and dedicated to all my clients. I am also a problem solver and usually all of my clients get more than they paid for! At the end of each website design service for example; when I finalize a website I always explain to my clients what to do next and how to use their website to help grown their business. I never just finish a project and not give any support afterwards. I leave my clients equipped as best as I can after each service.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned as a business owner is that, you need to learn every part of your business before you hire others. If you don’t know about all parts of your business, how will you know if the person you hire is doing a good job or the correct job?

I decided to rebrand this year in 2024 because I felt my company needed it with the new direction I am going and with how far I’ve come. I am very excited for the future of my company. What’s to come? I will be launching lots of digital products for sale on my website, editable templates on Canva, 1:1 in person or online Canva classes, website design and more! Stay tuned for my new website! It’s s launching soon.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the beautiful peach state of GA. Ponce City Market is the place to go. There are plenty of restaurants and things to do. You can also walk on the belt line which is located there and runs for miles. You can skateboard, ride scooters, ride bikes or just talk a walk on the belt line. Inside Ponce City Market are a few retail stores as well. It’s a great place to visit for the whole family. I would recommend eating at 9 mile station which is located on the roof of Ponce City Market. There is also a small fair with games, a slide and mini gold up there for the kids as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my mom, my husband and daughters. Each one as played a part in my journey. My daughters are what inspire me to be better everyday and motivate me to never give up. I not only want to be successful but also leave a legacy behind for them.
