We had the good fortune of connecting with Deion T. Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deion T., how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Memphis Tennessee. Being brought up in the streets hanging with real drug dealers and addicts made me see who not to be. I chose a different path. A path that led me to be a minister. I’m a minister who goes out to the streets and shows them that the life they live doesn’t have to be where they are stuck. I walk as a light for those who want a way out but don’t know how to get out. I use comedy as a way to shed light on my life and all the situations I have been through and overcame. My upbringing is what molded me to be the man that I am today, the father to my children. I will forever be grateful for my upbringing for it taught me what not to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am one of Atlanta’s top upcoming clean comedians. What sets me apart is that I bring light to every situation in life, from recent events to family life perspectives. I got to hit some of the top comedy stages by constantly studying my craft & going out to test my material with different types of audiences. No, it hasn’t been easy because I do clean comedy in clubs where it’s rare. I overcame the challenge by just stepping out on faith & it worked out because no matter what you do your talent & work ethic will make room for you in places people won’t expect you to be in. I want the world to know that WE ARE CALLED TO BE THE WORLD’S LIGHTS! I want my brand to represent no matter whatever darkness you are around in life you can be the light in any situation

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Atlanta’s top comedy clubs like Uptown Comedy Corner, Laughing Skull Lounge & Atlanta Comedy Theatre to get some good laughs & some of the best food & drinks I’ve ever had.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So my Shout Out is to the real M.V.P of my life; My Beautiful & Loving Wife Shontell. She has been my support system from the beginning even when it’s hard because I make so many transparent jokes about her & our relationship. She watches our 3 amazing children when I’m out in the different clubs at night holding it down so I have to give her a lot of the credit for my career.
