We had the good fortune of connecting with Deion “D Fist” Peoples and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deion “D Fist”, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I feel creativity is central to me and everyone else. Without being too philosophical, I believe all careers have a strong creative elements in them although often unrecognized. Being an entertainer allows me to express creativity openly, inspiring some feeling or experience. With the vision of encouraging people to create with more mindfulness, this path is so aligned to who I am.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love hip-hip and rap in all forms. While flow and style is emphasized amongst lyricists, I’d say I have no signature flow as it always switches and I can match any track. For me, I wanted my constant to be what I was saying lyrically and not how I was saying it. I find this makes me more creative as I’m not tied to any vibe or tone.

Because both my fans and myself are so open, I’m excited about what uncharted territories I’ll explore next. I’m excited about how these new songs will get people through more study sessions, exercises, morning routines, pregames, etc.

The wealth of support I had got me to this point. The talented artists and freestylers, pushed me to learn how to perform and rap better. The free studios with tech people at the University of Georgia were where I recorded my first tracks. The Music Business Certificate program at the school provided me with valuable lessons, community, and opportunity. My parents and family have been extremely supportive. I would not be moving as freely without them. So yes, the people around me made it easy and any challenge in my way stood no chance against the support I had.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that boldness and vulnerability creates more opportunities to connect. We share a lot of the same insecurities and desires. You owning that is beneficial overall. Another lesson I’ve learned is that perception is so important. How you assign meaning to situations in your life can make or break you.

As far as my brand, I want people to be able to grow with it. I do not know all the answers but I am committed to learning and hope I encourage you to do the same. This brand is a safe-place for untangling that uncomfortable humanity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because we on the Soufside, we got to slide by the Clayton County International Park or the “ATL Beach”. Food wise, we hitting up Nouveau Bar & Grill as well as the Georgia Potato Factory. We could spend a day at Atlantic Station and Underground to get the full experience. I’m also seeing a Main Event day at Cumberland with a movie before or after. I would love going with my cousins from out of town to Six Flags. If they down for the ride, we could take a trip to Athens and get some Bubble Cafe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, T.K. Peoples, is an author. She is a source inspiration as not only my mother, but also as a creative and independent entrepreneur. A lot of the stuff I’m doing now, she’s already did it. My brother and music producer, Sir Jerelle, is quite literally a direct inspiration as he produced my two official releases.
