We had the good fortune of connecting with Debra Smart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Debra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind my business amazingly was just a fun hobby in my spare time that immediately became a way of living for me. I always questioned myself daily about the jobs I was working just wasn’t enough for me and that I needed a way to make extra money and this hobby turned into an income that has grown tremendously over the years. It was a no brainer for me to commit to what I enjoyed doing full time and make it my main source of income.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is the quality of my products. I spend so much time making sure that the desserts and food I make look and taste like no other. We as humans see things before we ever taste things and when people see my pictures and videos , it immediately captures their attention to want to purchase what I am promoting because of the way it looks. My presentation means everything to my brand. I got to where I am professionally through hard work , dedication, long nights , sleepless nights and just a pure passion for what I do. It was not easy at all. I’ve been faced with so many challenges in this profession and two of my biggest lessons I learned is that my services are not for everyone and all money isn’t good money. I would like the world to know that I Debra Smart have so much in store for Sugar Koated Kreationz and that my brand isn’t just treats it’s pleasure and love that I put into make these treats. My brand will be global one day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Montgomery, AL! We have a few hidden gems in our city. If my best friend was coming for a week long trip we would definitely have us some dinner at Charles Anthony restaurant and hit happy hour at Firebird’s. The Hookah House a nice upscale black owned hookah lounge would be our night spot to hang out and enjoy great vibes. We also have a bomb selfie museum here called Go Bananas Selfie Museum so this would be our day spot to hit. Downtown Riverwalk is a nice spot to explore.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest dedication to my business is my children. They are the reason I grind so hard to make sure that my business continues to flourish because it’s all for them. My customers are the reason for my success of my business and without them my business would be nothing. Even to the ones who just share about my business word of mouth or share a flyer or post on social medial , this contributes to the success of my business. I truly thank my customers and my social media followers from the bottom of my heart.
