Meet Deborah Powell | Photographer & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deborah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always had the desire to be a businesswoman. The more I continue the journey of having my own business is seeing that I am the business. My overall thought process behind starting my own business was to influence Godly and positive changes in those working with and observing me. There is no blueprint for people like me in business so I set out to make one.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To be honest I’m still learning and developing every day. What sets me apart is the love I have for God. Like he’s everything. I always use to say if I could get paid to create that would be my career. no look at me. lol, It isn’t always easy because finding the thing you want to stick to is hard because you can do a lot. What makes creating easier is being in the presence of God and being able to be sensitive to his presence and his ways of guiding. A few lessons I’ve learned make sure you have legal counsel/ representation. If they don’t sign and agree to your terms on paper don’t work with them. Ask for client character references depending on the project. SELF-CARE IS A MUST. Have a routine. Depression will set in if you don’t have the plan to deal with all aspects of your health. STOP worrying about time just do the work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To keep it a buck I don’t venture out much lol. we’d be at the Korean bathhouse twice that week. Go bowling, some top golf, last I’d be all over Eventbrite and Groupon looking for things to do. Ha ha
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Being creative is hard, but being with my Embassy ATL family makes it easier and less of a burden. My best friends Gus’tavia, Edleea, and TK are always hyping me up and in my corner in every way possible. Last but not least my family.
