We had the good fortune of connecting with Deb Rosenbury and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deb, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I live in Marietta and had artist studio space in Chamblee. Loved the space and all the other artists but the commute was just getting harder. And since my art had started becoming more successful, I was commuting nearly five days a week.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have no classical training in art. Being in an art studio and being fully emersed in it was inspiring. That has truly been the ground work for all I do. It also led me to wanting to learn more. I have taken on-line classes, attended seminars, tried different mediums, and visited galleries and museums everywhere. I have even attended residencies twice in France.
I am proud of my accomplishments in art and I love creating it. But I totally understand I could not have reached this level without the help of the artists around me. They have all been so helpful and encouraging. Just being around them inspires me to try different things in the art world.
I guess my message to others is that there is more in you than you even know. Hang out with good people. Learn from those who have been successful. And just keep trying things.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We have lived several places around the country, so we have a lot of friends from a lot of places. As a result, we have a lot of visitors. Quite frankly, our favorite place to entertain people is in our home. I love to cook, and we love our neighborhood. Just sharing a meal and talking is absolutely the best time.
When we do venture out with friends, we very much like the Marietta Square. The First Friday Art Walks and the Summer Concerts on the Square are fun. There is a great community spirit here and we love it. While the restaurants are nice, the people of Marietta make it a great place.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have evolved a lot as an artist. I have been developing my creative side for a number of years. I have done several crafts and have established an interior design storefront while also providing interior design services. I continued using my creative skills and eventually secured studio space in Chamblee. The longer I was there, the more emersed in art I became and the more I gravitated towards it. Eventually I was painting more and creating art full time. One of the real keys was all the thirty-some artist around me in the studio spaces. They were amazing and taught me a lot.
