We had the good fortune of connecting with Dear Kiwanna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dear Kiwanna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted my creative ideas to come to life. Seeing your creations outside of your thoughts is by far one of the best feelings. One of my major goals was create jewelry and spiritual items for and from people like me. I’m in love with the spiritual realm of things and have been since I was a child. I’ve always been drawn to different artifacts and the deeper meaning behind them. I learn, observe, and absorb from many different cultures and religions. I feel as though each way of life can teach us and bring out different meanings within ourselves. I was 25 when I started my journey. I felt as if there was more to the life I was living and my soul craved something more. I started with learning more about the chakras and how to balance them. From there I went on to understanding meditation and how important it is for the body. I began to notice things about myself that needed correcting and why I always landed myself in certain situations I wasn’t so proud of. I kept to my studies and researched where I began to realize how important plants were not only to our environment but how they heal in ways we never imagined. From there i began my business using plants to heal my body, mind, and soul.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I cannot commit to my craft unless my heart is in it. I have to feel the beat of the drums. Motherhood for me put a small pause on my craft but not in the worst way. I’m now learning how to unapologetically be my authentic self and how to put that in my work and what I create. A big lesson I’ve learned was how to be still and listen. I learned how to listen for the beat before I seek it. I’m thankful for each client and supporter, they’re always keeping me in business even when I feel like my cup is empty. It’s a blessing to have an impact on a community who believes in you so much. My clients keep me busy professionally. They keep me grounded each time they reach out for advice, recommendations, and more.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Anyone who’s ever believed in my vision even when I didn’t believe in myself. Often creators put too much pressure on themselves to make “perfection”. We sometimes forget that we are the creation. Thank you to anyone who has ever spoke an encouraging word to me or over my process. When I first began my journey I researched a lot of different philosophers, tarot readers, root worker, and authors. I read many different books on the journey of what was now becoming my life. One of my favorite books is “Jambalaya” by Luisah Teah. Anyone seeking the divine should really check out this book. Another great read is “Pussy Prayers” by Anike Rich. This book will guide you on the path of your femininity and help with what you may struggle to understand. I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to the women who weren’t afraid to be themselves in a world where we’ve always been taught to be a singular thing. To the wild women who are drown the the forrest and forces of nature. Thank you for being you and showing us we could be the ourselves too.
