We had the good fortune of connecting with DeAnne Jacobson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeAnne, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
There are a ga-zillion fitness businesses dedicated to perfecting your body. That’s not what you’ll find here.

Fit-and-Strong.com is dedicated to YOU. This is a space where normal, everyday people are dipping their toes into the extraordinary idea of evolving fitness. We like to exercise more aspects than just the typical physical plane.

– How do we spend our time when we’re NOT working out?
– What are the best tools to keep ourselves nourished and balanced?
– How about our family- how fit are our relationships?
– What’s our regime for keeping our mind sharp?
– What inspires us to transform our physical exercise into multi-faceted, sparkling wellness?

Let me clarify something: I know that consistent exercise is important, and I emphasize working out in my programs. But…I invite you to develop strength and endurance beyond the boundaries of your workouts.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been a fitness professional for the last 20 years. I’ve helped hundreds of clients as an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer, a Fitness Director, a Les Mills instructor – among many other qualifications and certifications. I love working in this field because inspiring people to live healthy is my purpose. I know that change is really scary . . . and hard . . . and frustrating. Trying to instill lasting change by yourself (without courage, authenticity, or accountability) is damn near impossible.

The core value of Fit + Strong is wellness-focused fitness. However, you will also find “outside of the box” trainings for your mind, body, & soul. Anything that can help give you the creative edge (that others wish they could get their hands on) is here. So make sure to subscribe and check back often for weekly challenges, inspiring videos, and done-for-you systems that will bring “F+S” into your life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would want to take my bestie to my favorite breakfast spots- Thumbs Up Diner, the original Flying Biscuit, Highland Bakery. We would definitely do some touristy things like Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market, including beltline walks at both spots. If they’re my best friend, they love being outside, so we’d climb up Stone Mountain (because ya gotta if ya never have), and if they’ve never been to Georgia, we’d also drive up to North Georgia for a day hike on the Appalachian Trail. Some dinners would be out at restaurants (The Optimist, Cooks and Soldiers) but we’d also go to YDFM (Your Dekalb Farmers Market) to get fresh fish and produce. And Sweet Auburn!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to every client who reached out to me to ask for help. It takes courage to allow a professional into their lives and help troubleshoot issues when they can’t find their flow. I’ve come to understand that aspiring fit + strong folks have a lot of the same questions, issues and fears.
