We had the good fortune of connecting with DeAnna Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeAnna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially, I thought starting a business will be easy considering entrepreneurship was instilled in me by my Father as an adolescent. My mom took the traditional approach by encouraging me to go the collegiate route. It didn’t take long for me to realize college wasn’t as fulfilling as people portray it to be. I’ve always had a passion for the Arts. Its the one thing that made me feel complete and gave me a sense of self-assurance. I decided to focus more in my business courses, started planning and creating the blueprint for DeLeGrace Dance Academy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
DeLeGrace Dance Academy is an inclusive studio for all artist. We specialize in building confidence, unity, strong work ethic and giving children a safe place to express themselves through art. I believe there are several things that set us apart from other studios. When we think of dance studios we picture them all being like Abby Lee’s Dance Moms or Ms. Diana from Dancing Dolls. We’re totally opposite. We give all of our students equal opportunities, we teach in a calm and loving environment. I encourage our dancers to have fun with dance. The technique will come as long as they commit to the art, be willing work hard and take positive constructive criticism. It’s important to me that children are passionate about the things they choose and genuinely enjoy it. I do not force dance on them. All of our classes are age appropriate. We’re in a world where our youth are already exposed to inappropriate content. At DeLeGrace Dance Academy a child can be a child.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will like to take the time to thank my Mom and my Husband. My mom selflessly invested in my future and never complained. She saw I had a gift for dance at a young age and nurtured that gift and passion into who I am today. She introduced me to the art of dance, sponsored my classes, attended every performance and late night rehearsal. Training as a dancer takes a level of commitment that many are not willing to accept. It can take a tole on you mentally and physically. My Mom supported me and was there every step of the way.

My Husband Mark always knew my dreams of owning a dance studio. He definitely helped me make it happen. He’s supported me in more ways than I can count. I can go to him when I’m feeling overwhelmed with all the demands of being a Mom, Wife, and Business owner. He listens and picks up the pieces with no hesitation. My dancers have two recitals every season. I’m pretty sure he’s never missed one performance. Not only is he present, he also fine time to help me prepare for the recitals. He will literally have a packing/ To do list for me. Its heartwarming knowing the depths he’s willing to go to ensure my happiness and success.
