We had the good fortune of connecting with Deanna Mathis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deanna, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Dalton is a small town about 1.5 hours north of Atlanta. My partners and I set our to create a gathering place for our local community and a catalyst for local development. In the 4+ years we have been open, Downtown Dalton has blossomed, We have a new amphitheatre with a free summer concert series, new businesses have opened by young entrepreneurs and more housing units have been added. Our Downtown has been transformed over the last 4 years, and we are proud to help create a place we can all be proud of.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a small production brewery located in the heart of Downtown Dalton. Our team set out to create a business at the intersection of entrepreneurship and community. We created an environment that is welcoming to families & pets, with delicious craft beer!

We are distributed across the state of Georgia though Savannah Distributing, so you will see our beers pop up at bars and restaurants across the state. Being a small business, we don’t have the sales & marketing staff like larger operations, so if you could ask for our beer at your local watering-hole, we would greatly appreciate it!

One of my favorite things is seeing the community that has been built over the last 4+ years. Seeing someone who is new to town, or just passing though on I-75, stop in and immediately feel welcomed and connected to Dalton is incredible. That’s what drives us.

If you are ever passing though Dalton on I75, we hope you stop in and visit us!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a fun one. I love to show off our town!

Flooring Industry – Flooring is the multi-billion dollar economic engine that drives NWGA. Dalton is well-known as the “floor covering capital of the world”. The founding story of the industry is a cool one. The whole industry was started by a 15 year old girl making tufted bedspreads. Great story of local female entrepreneurship (and why we have a thing for peacocks).

Downtown Dalton – In the last 4 years downtown has experienced a revival and DBC is proud to be part of it! We built Burr Park, a new amphitheater downtown, hosting free Friday night concert series in June & July and many other events throughout the year. Lots of new local businesses/restaurants and several new housing units have opened. Downtown Dalton also has an open container ordinance, so you can walk around with a beverage from a downtown business.

Block79 – Close to Downtown Dalton, this district is seeing incredible growth thanks to a husband and wife team who are leading the revitalization. D-Food Collab restaurant and Casa Del Cafe coffee shop are not to be missed.

Creative Arts Guild – Georgia’s oldest multi-disciplinary arts center with visual art, music, ballet and an impressive outdoor sculpture garden. Their annual events like Low Country Boil and Festival – with live music, food, and arts & crafts vendors are always fun!

The Mill at Crown Garden – A warehouse conversion concept with cool local shops, restaurants and other businesses (in a historic cotton production facility) just outside of Downtown. The local historical society & archives is located next door at Crown Garden.

Haig Mill Lake Park – A beautiful new park around a reservoir/lake north of town. There are plans to connect this park to Crown Mill/Downtown by a Greenway walking trail.

Dalton State College – Designated as the state’s first Hispanic serving institution, with a growing campus life and athletics programs. They have an impressive campus and facilities. Also home to the Turtle Assurance Colony.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this shout-out to my DBC co-owners and our awesome staff! Our team is truly top-notch. They take pride and ownership in creating a warm-welcoming environment, all while serving some great craft beer and building community. We also want to thank our customers & the whole Dalton community. Throughout the pandemic, they supported and encouraged us and keep our dream alive. Cheers to them!
