Meet De Fronzo Lenz | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with De Fronzo Lenz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi De, what are you inspired by?
I’m a passionate, innovative photographer from Virgin Gorda, BVI — and everything I create is crafted through the lens of art.
Like many photographers, my style has been shaped by a wide spectrum of inspirations, techniques, and experiences. But at the heart of it all, my journey began with one person: my stepfather. He was the first to place a camera in my hands, gently showing me how to see the world through a frame. Back then, it was just a hobby — a pastime I didn’t think could become anything more.
When he passed away, I was devastated. It felt like my creative compass had disappeared. But rather than let that loss silence me, I picked up the camera again — this time with intention. I started going on quiet adventures across Virgin Gorda, reconnecting with the land that raised me. My close friend Zulu became my first muse, and I began to merge portraiture with the sweeping beauty of my island’s landscapes.
Everything shifted when I met Christopher Kissoon. He introduced me to the world of lifestyle and fashion photography and invited me to join a creative agency he was building. That’s where I began to hone my eye — or as I like to say, my lens. It was in that space, surrounded by models and artists, that I began crafting a signature vision rooted in feeling, story, and soul.
In 2017, after the hurricane ravaged our islands, I relocated to London. The move placed me in the pulse of a vibrant fashion scene, surrounded by creators of all kinds — designers, photographers, models, artists. I already knew what I wanted to create. All I needed was the exposure. Being there allowed me to experiment more deeply with color grading and composition, transforming my photographs into painterly works of art.
Fall in the UK became one of my greatest muses. There was something sacred in the way the leaves shifted from green to gold to deep brown — a quiet transformation that echoed so much of my own. I remember thinking, “How do I recreate this feeling without capturing it literally?” That question led to the creation of my signature earth-tone color grading — a palette that speaks to warmth, nostalgia, and the beauty of nature’s cycles.
Those tones are now a signature of my work. They don’t just reflect seasons — they reflect memory, healing, and the soulful rhythm of where I come from.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others: what sets me apart as a creative photographer, Where I am from studio photography is highly regarded, so I took a different approach by creating studio inspired photography and doing them outside amongst our beautiful landscape of nature. I wanted to break the boundaries of what landscape photography can do and incorporate it with lifestyle photography. I started using color grading to create illustrations of art in photos. I wanted to create a boundless canvas through my lens.
