We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Veasley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawn, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Honesty. To be honest means you have to be transparent. People appreciate the option to make their own decisions on how or if they will move forward with you in the future. In order for them want to do business with you sometimes it requires crucial conversations that are not always good news.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For the past 25 years I’ve worked in healthcare. When I purchased my home in 2019, I panicked. What if I loose this ONE source of income? I actively started looking for seven streams. I was trying to teach myself how to swing trade, doing DoorDash etc. Then the opportunity came for me to become a travel agent. At first it was about the money. However, travel is one of my many loves. The journey quickly became a labor of love. I threw myself into learning. I attended webinar after webinar. I went to in person trainings. The education is what really sets me apart from others. My clients tell me “you’re so knowledgeable” and “I tried to use my friend but she didn’t know what she was doing so I came back to you.” I’ve made mistakes (a lot of them 😅). Making mistakes with someone’s travel plans is the worse. It can be difficult when you’re getting started. You quickly learn to double and triple check everything. While I’m far from where I could be, I see signs of my success. I’ve been asked by other travel professionals to create a master class so they can learn from me. I want to say 🗣 sign up for the FREE webinars and learn your craft. My friends tell me, no just create a class and monetize off your knowledge, lol. Though the money can be nice, it isn’t everything. I want to help those who want to experience the world experience it. Travel opens your mind and your heart. It’s the best teacher. I specialize in group travel. One of my goals is to get my clients a champagne 🍾 getaway on a beer 🍺 beer budget. My main goal is to turn my business into a destination wedding travel business . I love love. What better than combining love and travel? 😍🥰
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Atlanta? I’m giggling at this question.. I was just telling someone the other day, I should become an Atlanta specialist since I live here. There are not they are (so no was gonna edit this? Y’all hiring editors? I’m available for freelance editing). If it was a 1st time vistor to the city I would get us city passes and do all the major attractions:
National center for Civil and Human Rights
Georgia Aquarium
World of Coke
College Football hall of fame
Centennial Park
Martin Luther King Jr. National Hstorical Park
Rainbow 🌈 walk
The Battery
Of course it depends on the traveler too. Do they live an active lifestyle? We may wanting to go hiking and see some of Georgia’s waterfalls or canoe/kayak the Chattahoochee river. Are they a foodie? Maybe we go on a food tour..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oof. I had to really think about this one. You’d think it would come easy. Whenever you’re trying to build something, not many will support you at first. Especially when whatever you’re doing is not immediately successful. When I was ready to quit due to COVID my long time friend and Candace Cunningham Esq. encouraged me to hold on. If it wasn’t for that particular conversation, I would have quit.
