Meet Dawn Stargell Moore | CEO, Coach Trainer, Executive, Career and Life Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Stargell Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

Moore 2 Life Consultants, LLC has truly been a labor of love. My story is one that surprises me when I reflect upon my journey. This is interesting as it causes me to talk about me, which is something I typically run from. I grew up in a single parent household in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Born the oldest of my mother’s two children, I had the love of two men I called dad, my biological father, Hall of Famer, Wille Stargell and stepfather, Thomas Love, Jr. As my mother (Wanda Carter Slaughter) was one of ten children, I was surrounded by grandparents, godparents, uncles, aunts and a host of cousins and friends. During my pre-teen years (age 12), my mother remarried and we moved from Pittsburgh to Georgia, which is where I reside today. By the time I was 13, my mother was divorced and made the difficult decision to remain in Georgia. She decided to bloom where she was planted. Seeing her forge forward, in a new land, was the catalyst for independence and resolve that runs deep within me.

As I matured, I spent the majority of my adult working career in Corporate America, which was a great way to grow personally and professionally. As I grew, I was just as diligent in learning and honing my interpersonal or soft skills, as I was about completing my formal education. Learning to connect and meet people where they are, is important to me and critical to building authentic relationships. Although shy and introverted, I always found myself drawn to positions that allowed me to support others, which is why my coaching and consulting business is where my passion and purpose collide.

Life is a series of convergences that help define and shape who we are. During my speaking engagements and coaching, I often share that we are the sum of our experiences. Unpacking my own experiences led me to the formation of Moore2Life Consultants, LLC, the business I never knew was in me. Throughout my life, I have dealt with many highs and lows: marriage, divorce, parenthood, remarriage, weight challenges, unemployment, career success and the deaths of what I call my rocks: biological father, mother, stepfather and husband. The valley experiences were followed by rich blessings. Death is a valley that I did not, do not deal with well. So much so, that after the death of my mother, I sank into a depression, which was overwhelming. Putting on a smile for my family was easy, but inside the pain was so overwhelming, that I physically ached. I asked God for healing, read the Prayer of Jabez, leaned on my village, journaled and prayed. God began to strengthen me and I soon came out of the dark place. When my husband died, I call that my point of no return. I was lost, confused, overwhelmed, scared, shaken – my foundation was rocked. As a widow and now single mother, I needed a way to get through this tragic loss, not only for me but my sons. I knew I could not do it by myself, so I asked God for a way to heal holistically, wisdom, guidance and to place the right people in my path to aid in the healing. I also asked God to not take me to that place of despair that occurred after my mother died, which was a Never Again Zone. Seeking assistance is humbling and a new trait I developed along the way. It was during this time of great loss, that God led me to my purpose, coaching. Sometimes others see things in you that you can not see yourself. It was during this time that one of my dearest friends was going through a coaching program and thought it would be a great fit for me. I loved helping others. I had been a great coach in my corporate roles and the evidence of my leadership could be realized in the growth of individuals I directly supported throughout my career. I am the voice of calm and reason in my circle and most importantly, coaching is that one thing that I would do for free if money was not an issue… Who am I kidding? I have been doing it for free for years – I called it being a good listener and source of support for others.

My road has truly been a learning experience. I am not sure that our roads are ever meant to be smooth. The question is whether or not I learned from the valuable life lessons and the answer is yes. I define success in knowing where my passion and purpose collide and walking in it. A picture of success, from my lens, is the being able to work in this space as often as I can and seeing the transformation in others. It means seeking opportunities to engage, offer services and create platforms to share with others. It’s surrounding myself with those that have a desire to learn, grow and pour into others along this journey called life. Success looks like leaving a legacy of love and care for your family and friends.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Moore 2 Life Consultants, LLC (M2L) is a place where transformation and growth collide! Discovering purpose, aligning goals and igniting potential is M2L. We know that we are placed on this earth for a purpose and that is what the coaches of M2L offer. Whether it is a company seeking to create an organizational strategy to improve growth , retention and profitability initiatives; executives seeking mentoring; teams seeking to build cohesiveness; or individuals ready to define and walk in purpose, Moore 2 Life has a suite of offerings with these customers in mind. As the CEO, I am most proud of my years of real-life experience in Corporate and Academia, in addition to the many challenges I have had to overcome. Having the educational and practical experience has made me a subject matter expert, which allows my organization to lead others to success. Our collaborative and commitment to care sets us apart from the competition.

In order to move in this space, I had to become a client. It was my desire to heal, grow and transform in a very deliberate way, that I created a path for others. When faced with death, industry changes and technology transformation, sometimes situations become overwhelming and additional support is needed to collaborate when building the path forward. I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to share my gifts with others. Moore 2 Life is accepting new corporate, team and individual clients. We look forward to connecting, engaging and supporting your journey toward transformation!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

This shout out is in memory of my ancestors that made it this life possible! My parents, Wilver (Willie ) Stargell (Baseball Hall of Fame), Wanda Carter Slaughter, Thomas Love, Jr. and husband Jason Moore. My heartbeats, better known as My Twin Towers, my sons, Derrick (DJ) and Jamar – I thank God for choosing me to be your mother. You two are the wind beneath my wings and my reasons to move. My siblings Wendy, Precious (Mike), Willie, Jr (Nicci), Kylin (Tana) and Kelli, my nephews, nieces and village of family and THE best friends EVER!! My church families through the years: Boat Rock Community Baptist Church, Wright Street Baptist Church, Good Hope Baptist Church and Paradigm 360. My employers, past and present, as well as everyone that I have encountered along the way. I have learned many valuable lessons and echo the sentiment of Maya Angelou in declaring, “Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now” ! I saved the best shout out of all for my God, for giving me His gift of life through His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
