We had the good fortune of connecting with Davo Alxndr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Davo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose an artistic career because it is the only thing that brought me pure happiness and made me feel whole. I’ve spent the better half of my life trying to appease family, friends and spouses. The day I made the decision to bet on me was the day I began to live for me. I don’t think I chose my art form; it chose me. Art is creative expression & I believe art lives in us all, in different forms, & in unique capacities.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from a lot of people is my unique attention to detail and hands down, the amount of time I put into promoting myself and clients effectively. There have been COUNTLESS 3, 4 and 5am sessions, where, while most of the world is sleeping, I’m up planning content for the week, taking pictures in the amenities of my building, or at the 24 hour museum, 21c Museum Hotel. Choosing this lifestyle was and has not been easy, but it has certainly been fulfilling in that it’s taught me exactly what I want out of life and the type of people I want to share it with. I’ve made many mistakes. I’ve trusted the wrong people with my time and money. I’ve gone broke more than once from not carefully allocating all of my resources. & since pursuing this dream, Ive undergone adversity far greater than anything Ive ever had to endure in my lifetime, yet still I wouldn’t change a thing. I get stronger & wiser every day and I’m very excited about where my future is headed. I receive a lot of love and admiration for my work and I’m finding the right crowds to associate my art with. It’s only a matter of time before these life lessons mold me into the best artist that I can be, not just for myself, but for the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Well of course, itineraries are always tailored to the individual themselves, but just off the back, I know a few places that my friends and I would have to visit.

When we talk restaurants, I’d have a different cuisine and restaurant to try for every day of the week. First up is Aba which is an elegant Mediterranean restaurant with fine dining and great drinks, the 2nd would be Federales for Tuesday where we’d grab some gourmet tacos and great drinks; they also have a couple fun drinking games. On Wednesday, we’d have to grab some chicken, depending on interest we could go from Chicago’s very own Harold’s in the hood or to a South African restaurant called Nandos which sells really good gourmet style chicken. On Thursday we’d rest and just cook inside. Friday and Saturday we’ll try some great seafood places, with Sushi being grabbed one of those days. Sunday I’m sure they fly back out.

Outside of food, we’d hit the shops on Michigan Ave to shop crazy & there would also be tons of dope museums, art galleries and fun like bowling, this place called sandbox which is a full body VR place. We’d also catch any great movies showing and hit a few bars and artistic events like fashion shows, pop up shops, grand openings, or art collab events which we always have

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few people who deserve a shoutout as a thank you for pushing me to strive for more.

The first is my mother. She’s not aware of this, but I tell friends all the time that since the beginning of time, I’ve always known her to pursue any and everything she’s felt passionate about. Most people, especially mothers her age, tend to stop pursuing things for themselves and just focus on taking care of their families/household. My mother of 6 though has went back to school more than 5 times, all for different passions, and has that many degrees as well. Even at her age now, she’s pursuing a PHD. That right there instilled me a great ambition and emotional bandwidth to pursue whatever I want, without posing any limitations on myself.

The 2nd shoutout goes to my therapist, Dr. Champion. As someone who was once on the brink of Great Depression just a year ago, I can definitely say that she played a crucial role in making sure I didn’t topple over and I’ve learned a great deal about myself because of her.
