We had the good fortune of connecting with DaVinci Don and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DaVinci, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I “chose” this path because it matches my frequency. The vibration of creativity and art is active. It’s in motion. It’s ever-changing. If you dip in a toe, you might feel the waves. If you jump in with both feet, eyes closed, off the diving board, into the deep end, you’re bound to make a splash.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting here required me to live through the events & moments that brought me here. Through the ups & downs, the trials & emotions. Being able to feel everything, without suppressing anything, while consciously making the decision to go forward, is the way to get through. It’s like you walk in a party & see the love of your life on the other side of the room. You’ve GOT to get there, you got to! A couple people might bump you, somebody might spill drank on your foot, you might stumble a lil bit, you might have to cha cha slide with shorty on the left, but you keep going. The key is finding joy in the journey & not being hard on yourself about what you chose to do on the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Hood, the Orchestra, & the After Party. The hood in LA reminds me of home back in the south. You’ve got people really standing on & standing for what they love & believe in. From the neighborhood aunties, to the street corner prophets, & the ones ready to do whatever it takes to protect their homes & provide for their loved ones. There’s an abundance of different types love there.
Then there’s the orchestra where people have turned their love for sound & music into a love of storytelling. I like it better than the movies because it’s live! The vibrations are immaculate. You can feel it all around you.

Then there is the after party. The heart of the culture partially lives in these events. There are now a handful of black flea markets & vendor based events, concert shows & dance parties, spirit & yoga gatherings, food marketplaces, rhythm sections & various types of events all based in love, sharing ideas, & togetherness. It’s really the bee’s knees.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s dedicated to all those who have love for what they are going after. Those with genuine love, a love that is free of condition, a love that doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. It’s for those willing to take the initiative to go the extra mile for what they love. For those who have unwavering love, a growing love, a love evolving. & for those who know the key to solid external love starts internally with love of self.
