Meet David Parham | Flight Deal Expert

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Parham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
To leave behind a company I built from scratch. I had brought in a partner whom I did not work well with. We were friends (and still are) but I couldn’t work with him any longer. I saw the signs of the partnership not working and knew that I could leave now or wait 3 years, have the company not go anywhere, and then leave. So I handed him the company with no strings attached and walked away. Years later, I was able to convince him with monetary means for me to build a business that directly competed with his company. So Jet Lag Hero was born and our friendship is still intact. We work better together as competitors than as partners striving to do better than the other and I don’t have a single doubt about the path I took to get here.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jet Lag Hero is a flight deal-finding website that provides information to its users when flight prices drop dramatically. We monitor the web to find the best deals around the world and send them out to our users from 7 different home airports, including Atlanta. We feel like we are the best in the business for the airports we service finding deals from our 7 airports. This company has been years in the making, starting with years of practice searching for deals, understanding the flight market, honing our skills, and finding flight deals. We spent time practicing and perfecting our craft and can say that today we typically send deals at least 24 hours before our competitors.
It’s super important to actually learn what your users are looking for. We have spent years learning what the people want. For instance, in my industry, several of my competitors send out flight deals that are completely unreasonable. Flights with 15-hour layovers, last-minute flights that people can’t plan for, or budget airlines that the cost of the ticket does not make up for the cost of the nickel and diming that budget airlines do. Most people typically want decent flight times on major airlines with a ton of dates available. We don’t don’t waste your time sending last-minute deals on budget airlines.
One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn is to not expect other people working for or with you to care about your product as much as you do. I have run several businesses, and every time I spent time looking for a partner to help me grow. Every time, I have set unrealistic expectations for people working with me who are there purely to collect money. Go into the relationship knowing that you are the only person who truly cares about your product, and it will help you make decisions for tasking others.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them into the mountains. I love north the Georgia mountains. Depending on the season, we would go to waterfalls, tube a river, and go see the views from blue ridge parkway.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my wife for always believing in me. She has always provided support and time for me to work on my side businesses, even when it means picking up more work herself.
