We had the good fortune of connecting with David Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The design industry is very exciting, but it is a challenging business. There are so many facets and nuances to it that I think most people are completely unaware of. Having a design business is like being a jack of all trades. To run a successful design firm you have to be both creative and business minded. We deal with logistics, clients, deadlines, finances, accounting, psychology, relationships, so on.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I worked for a design firm in NYC straight out of college. It was a great experience and exposed me to a high-level of design, project management, client management, etc. I knew that I wanted to have my own design firm that would focus on high-end residential work and the experience of working there coupled with my education gave me the knowledge and skill set to start my own firm. I have a degree in Architecture and a professional background in Architecture, Interior Design, and Project Management. That sets us apart from a lot of design firms. I think we are very well rounded and highly skilled.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would try to schedule it on the second weekend of the month when the Scott Antiques Market is happening. I would start with lunch at Howell Mill Tacqueria Del Sol, followed by shopping at Sid Mashburn and Billy Reid. Then I would head down to Scott Antique Market. Following the Market I would have dinner at a favorite restaurant on Krog Street, Kevin Rathbun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents deserve so much credit. They always fostered, encouraged, and supported whatever I wanted to do. Although, they were in completed different career fields (Accounting and Education), when I told them I wanted to be an Architect they were 100% on board and have supported me every step of the way.
