We had the good fortune of connecting with David Ferebee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Well. The main business is called The Edit Room, LLC which is mostly videography and video editing. E.R.

Photography is the photo side of the business and operates under the The Edit Room, LLC brand. I started the

business to give people professional quality videography and photography at a consumer price. I try to bring

my 25 years plus of broadcasting experience to the table and offer it to the masses.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My whole professional career has been behind the scenes in TV. I started from the bottom now I am here. LOL!! I started in the TV studio as a production assistant for WVEC-TV in Norfolk, Virginia. Moved all the way up the ladder to Director of the evening news. Then I moved to Post Production Editor and been in Post Production ever since. What sets me apart from others? I can see projects before they are even finished. While a client is explaining the project to me, I can see the end result and finish it well before the deadline. Like they say, “Time is

Money!!!” I am most proud of my 5 Regional Emmy Awards I have earned with my editing skills. And most recently more proud of keeping my freelance business up and running for over 10 years. I would say I got to where I am right now with the grace of God and a lot of practice perfecting my skills in the business. I am still learning new things everyday and still have the passion to do so. I am by far not the best at what I do, but I am good at what I do! It was not easy, especially being a black man in this industry. Like everything it is all in who you know and meet. The relationships you make in the biz and be careful not to burn those bridges. Be flexible when going for you goals. Don’t quit and stay positive. Never think you are the best but know your worth. Stay positive and remember practice makes perfect. If you are not having fun doing it. Maybe you need to change it up a little.

I would just like people to know if you work with The Edit Room, LLC. Be it video or photography it will be a fun professional experience. When The Edit Room does a project we try to go all the way in. Making your project an experience and not just another job.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Breakfast would have to be between Nana’s Chicken and Waffles and The Flying Biscuit. Keep the Mimosas coming!!!! Lunch at Atlantic Station and the Battery in Truist’s Park. Chillout at some sporting event depending on the season preferably football. Hit up a comedy night at the Comedy Club one day. Head up to Chateau Elan for a day of wine tasting and hit Mall of GA for shopping on the way back. And top off the last night at Cam Newton’s spot Fellowship.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

When I moved to Atlanta I got more involved in the church and the church ministries. Obviously I gravitated to the technical side of things and asked Bishop Gary Hawkins if I could  join the broadcasting ministry. At the time he did not have one and asked me to head it up. So while heading up the church video ministry, I said why not purchase my own equipment as well and start my own. That way when the church needs additional help I can help them as well.

And me being a Post Production Editor for WSB-TV at the time I labeled the business The Edit Room, LLC. So my encouragement for my business was my church Voices of Faith Ministries and Bishop Gary Hawkins for having faith in me to head things up for him and the church.
