We had the good fortune of connecting with David Cole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Everything is a balance, but I’ve always said that if you do something you love, you never work a day in your life. For musicians, it’s who we are, not just what we do. Being happy in all areas is a really great place to be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the bandleader of Band X, one of Atlanta’s top party bands since 1996. I was a studio and touring musician in my early years, touring and recording with national acts. I started working with having party bands and having a residency in Buckhead for five years at Celebrity Rock Cafe and later at Kazoo’s/The Stage in Gwinnett. I reinvented the band in 2004 and dedicated our primary focus on to corporate and wedding work, and it’s been great for us. We still fill in our calendar with different clubs around town, and we love seeing all of the people that come to see us. We travel the country now doing private events and weddings, and we back up different headliners like Rick Springfield, Paul Rodgers, Jack Blades, Eddie Money (RIP) and many others for our different corporate clients with our “Party With A RockStar” program. Getting to where we are now has taken time and effort, but it’s been so much fun and very rewarding. I try to treat everyone with respect and our reputation as being very easy to work with is something I’m most proud of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take anyone to see Band X, of course! We play all over town when we’re not doing our big events. We love playing everywhere from the Wild Wing locations, to The Rock N Taco in Roswell, to Good Ol Days in Cumming to the Branch House in Flowery Branch.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t do what I do without the support of the community and the people who come to see Band X, and the amazing group of musicians and production people I work with. I couldn’t be happier with the current lineup of Band X- some of the players have been with me for 20-30 years. I also couldn’t do it without my wife, Toni. She handles the business side of things for me and keeps me organized. We’ve been working side by side for over 22 years and I couldn’t do it without her!
