We had the good fortune of connecting with Daverney Freeman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daverney, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a young mom with limited resources, I didn’t have much options when trying to find nutritious meals on a budget.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Easy Bakers Catering begin with a mom that wanted to share easy inexpensive nutritious meals to other parents by uploading videos on YouTube. From there, I’ve received many requests for custom meals and desserts that I delivery throughout the Atlanta and surrounding areas. I’m a huge believer of the old concept of paying it forward. At Easy Bakers Catering, we pledge 15% of sales to men and women of color legal fees. We are in the process of helping a young men name Cory Emory in St. Lucie county, Florida to obtain a lawyer so he can have a “fair” chance in court. Having a small business requires a lot of self-motivation, determination and being focus. When my finance gave me the idea of starting a catering company, it was a little scary because it seemed like such a big risk. I was so skeptical of how it would all play out. I mean, my family always compliment my meals and said I was good at what I did, but it’s family and sometimes family can hype you up a little more than necessary! But I felt I had a unique product to market. Before diving in, I spent a good deal of time researching business models, thinking through different scenarios, and developing a business plan. I learned that staying consistent played a major role in my success. I want the world to know that Easy Bakers Catering is a small family-oriented business located in Riverdale, Ga that care and invest in the well-being of our community and its future. We vow to source only high-quality foods and ingredients for the dishes that we prepare. We believe that you are as good as what you eat, so we always aim to serve you with love and care.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When you visit the city, you can count on getting “only in Atlanta” experiences guaranteed to make any trip shine. I love that these must-see attractions in Atlanta are fun for the whole family and are full of memorable stops. I would definitely recommend the Atlanta Botanical Garden for a lush, urban oasis. I really enjoy walking through the Orchid Display House and going to events like Cocktails in the Garden. Then you must take a journey through Martin Luther King Jr.’s storied life with a guided tour of his birth home, the original Ebenezer Baptist Church and the theater to view Civil Rights films. We will spend a day in Decatur for small business shopping and eating. We will escape into an underwater paradise by visiting the Georgia Aquarium where we can see the world’s largest fish, whale sharks, and belugas. Atlanta nightlife is the ultimate melting pot of fun. Dance the night away during a girls’ night out at Wraith ATL or relax in the sophisticated, stylish and seductive surroundings of Suite Food Lounge. Last but not least, you must visit the Atlanta iconic Waffle House restaurant.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been several people who have impacted and influenced my career. The most influential people are my kids, friends and finance. They are always encouraging and supporting me on daily. They helped me understand that my voice is important, and that I have the ability, capacity and responsibility to make a difference. Most importantly, they inspired me to live by the principle that it is important to give back more than I take.
