We had the good fortune of connecting with Dasiona Backus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dasiona, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
How do I know when to give up or keep going ? I don’t Ha ! I think when I think of giving up now or to even continue going on It’s About the circumstances of the situation. Sometimes it’s hard to tell when something is a dead situation or Dry Bones but the beautiful thing about “giving up “ or to continue “going” is that we never know what’s next ! Because whether we make the dry bones move or make the dead thing live Everything will work out and turn out for Our Good. The outcome is bigger than the process but the process is what makes us.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Life coach who Helps people in whatever way they need it, that being said meaning even if you come to me for situation we are going to work on every situation that’s in your way. I know that sometimes we need a little guidance and most times we have some guidance in our lives already but we just need a little help identifying them. Knowing what it feels like to be stuck in a hole of Dark Depression and how exhausting it is to fight and claw your way out of it and hide it everyday …..I think you get the picture why wouldn’t I fight for it to be worldwide! When I was in that place I couldn’t really breathe and I got up everyday the same and worked and laughed and walked around A Ghost! That didn’t help me at all because I was suppressing it and when midnight would hit I was alone! And then the day would start again. I didn’t have resources and i didn’t want to pay for help. Mental health is something that isn’t talked about enough and that has little to no resources in place for those struggling with it ! That needs to change so I’m fighting and advocating everyday for it ! I advocate for those who needs mental health days from work ,school etc. I was treated horribly by adults as a child and just like my mental health I kept it a secret from those close to me so it was never addressed but it effected me in the long run. The last straw was when I was told “ I was nothing and would never be in life “ in front of a hallway full of students and administrators , I advocate for youth so They don’t have to. The only job the youth should have is getting an education and thinking about what a beautiful future they will have and will pass on to their children. There are adults put in place to take care of and protect youth who should have never been in position to. I will be starting medical school soon and I will continue my work as a Cardiothoracic surgeon. I have a mission to help save the world and nothing will stop me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love history ! And sometime simple things. If you are ever in the DMV I would suggest you try Downtown Dc there are different places and things to do and places to eat ! Maryland , Baltimore and the national Harbor are Great Places. The ride across the Bay Bridge is breathtaking! You Have to go down to the WHARF And get some seafood as well with Old Bay ! The most popular thing is the mumbo sauce ! I recommend Good Hope Carry Out In Washington DC , Good Hope Rd. And The oriental Express in Maryland, Marlboro Pike .The original Bens Chilli Bowl U St. The Chesapeake Bay , Laffeyette sq! Tysons corner shopping outlet. FedEx field, ravens stadium And The Goodman League in Barry Farms Dc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to Shoutout My mother Pamela Backus For Being All She could be to us even when she was holding on by a thread. Raising us in and out of hospitals and more through it all Her number 1 mission was raising us and making sure we were good regardless! I will forever be thankful and grateful for the sacrifices made for me to be anywhere I will ever be. My Bishop Irving Rollins for encouraging me and praying for me when I couldn’t do it for myself or recognize that I needed it ! It Shaped me into something Greater! At the end of it all I would Like to shoutout Myself I have Overcome a lot in my life the majority and alone because for a long time it felt as though I never was supposed to have a voice and I wasn’t enough to speak to anyone or about anything. It’s something to build confidence from nothing but to do that and Heal from things I’ve gone through and help others in the process Is Extraordinary and I hate that it took so long! But I can say that it feels awesome to actually live ,love , heal and grow While helping others not take so long to get to where I know they can be ! I truly started to live and heal when I realized I was the only one in the way of myself.

I have a book coming out on My birthday October 15, 2021 Called Confused , Conflicted And Uncomfortable with a short production to it ! I can’t wait! I hope it blesses More people than I can count.
