We had the good fortune of connecting with DASHA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DASHA, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’ve always intentionally tried to seek discomfort because when you’re uncomfortable you’re forced to grow and adapt. I also think being the least talented person “in the room” is crucial to becoming better at whatever you’re doing. I spent the last three years in Nashville writing with people who were way better than me and I learned so much. A few months ago, I realized I didn’t feel like that anymore and so I needed to push myself and move to LA even though that makes me a little fish in a huge pond. I’m terrified but that’s a good thing. As far as my brand goes, I present myself on social media just as I am in real life. It’s me, it’s authentic. I’m really proud of that. People are attracted to authenticity. I’m trying to make history with my music and “well-behaved women don’t make history”.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Figuring out my sound and brand has taken almost ten years of songwriting and development to get where I am today. It has not been easy, rather than extremely exhausting but also so rewarding. I was almost subconsciously growing up artistry alongside actually growing up. It was difficult not comparing myself to other artists especially when it’s human nature when you’re growing up and have no idea who you are. There is no separation from my artist project, DASHA, and Dasha, the 21-year-old girl living in LA. It’s all authentically me. I’m exactly who my musical persona is in real life. My songs are written about shit that goes down in my life. I think that’s what makes my music so relatable. It’s not sugar-coated, it’s honest. That’s what sets me apart.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You can literally do anything you want in LA but I’d definitely take my best friend shopping on Melrose and to the flea market at the Rose Bowl Saturday morning. Then we’d grab lunch at Sugar Taco (vegan Mexican food) and head to Santa Monica pier. Go swimming, possibly surf, then ride some rides at night. For dinner, we’d go to get some fresh seafood on the coast. I’m big on activities so I might take them to a couple of modern art museums. Obviously, would have to grab dinner, drinks and ride the bull at Saddle Ranch. We’d fit a matcha boba from Urth Cafe and some amazing ramen in there too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here without the day one support from my family. My parents always supported us to follow our creative pursuits despite the challenges. My older brother, Bardo paved the way in my artistry in so many ways. He was the one who inspired me from a young age in a musical sense, but also how to show up in the world with confidence and humility. Thank you to my best friends for being endlessly supportive, my fans for being on the Dasher train since day one, and my incredible team at Quadio Records. I love you guys thank you for believing in me xoxo
