We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryll Ballard Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darryll, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind me starting my business was simply to establish wealth for me and my family. But to be more specific it was manifested, it all started with an idea, then with determination it became my reality.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets I Ain’t Done Apparel apart from others is the inclusiveness of the disabled and handicapped community which empowers motivates and works with others to show through art music and fashion a different narrative of our endeavor’s. The moral of the brand stands for not giving up. Im most proud of the affirmation from other wheelchair users and how they also feel special through the music and fashion. Also encouraging me to continue due to the excitement of what im presenting and how it motivates them which motivates me. I got here professionally by continuing to challenge myself to go beyond limits that were put on me. It was not easy, it’s so many other factors of life that play into consistency maintaining a work schedule while dealing with random occurrences from medical to personal things got overwhelming. I chose to stick to the plan, it’s get harder before it gets easier. The more I grow the easier it gets. I have learned the world will delegate what they think about your success and struggle buts it’s up to you to determine where it is in life you see yourself and give it your all to accomplish what you feel deserving of. I want the world to I AINT DONE APPAREL is not only for handicapped individuals it’s also for people that refuse to let society dictate there value based upon imagery. Don’t Stop Growing and Yearning for Knowledge as well as Bringing a Different lite and Narrative to The Wheel/ SCI (spinal cord injury) community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them downtown to see the view visit a few spots. Roots Handmade pizza Darrins Grill bowling. I go to accessible places where I know I can enjoy. Site seeing and food tasting. We also have day cruises that are really exclusive and entertaining.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated to my mother Angela Ballard. Although she is no longer with me, she encouraged me to break barriers and push myself beyond expectations and limits. Not allowing peoples perception and or dilemma’s to deter me from what I valued. She believed me in when nobody did, and to be now where I am where as I have obtained and accomplished certain things we spoke about. I just wish she was here to witness how it formulated.
