We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryl Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darryl, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process to starting this business was simply I love to cook and realized that this was kind of my therapy. When my mom passed August 13, 2000. I took such loss of a mommy and started the process of grieving. this was a very difficult season for me, it was the beginning of Epicurean Drama Events and Later Darryl Taylor Chef Drama.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I totally relax in all efforts involving my work as if only a true artist could and would do. Like being in front of a canvas preparing to create something amazing for my guest/ clients to enjoy. As we All eat with our eyes first. Then savor the flavors. This truly sets me apart from the masses, nothing is planned nor staged. Throughout the years I have always learned no matter what, in my true opinions, even when others think you have lost. I consider it all being WINNINGS indeed. You see, it’s all life’s lessons. Learning and winning. Never thinking about as a loss. You simply get back up and try it again and again! Life brings about many challenges, whether it’s relationships, finances, health or whatever it might be. However, for me it has been and was some of them all. Giggles. When I tell you after being a CKD patient for over 17 years (chronic kidney disease). Receiving a gift of life four years ago (kidney transplant). I know all too well of life’s challenges and being a true overcomer/ survivor. With my Strong Faith in God, it was that I can say I have made it thus far. And with his Grace will I indeed carry on! Holding strong to this crazy faith, I won’t say it has not been difficult because there were days I so wanted to give up. So glad I did not give up, you see God had a plan. How I wanted to peek behind the vail to see like a kid in a candy store. He saves the best for last. The way things unfolded after getting this transplant, this lets me know how BIG GOD is. Going to film Next Level Chef with Gordon Ramsey in London for 2023. Working on my Rolyat71 LLC / Kickin Country Keto BBQ Brand. All things lined being a chef and creating a Keto Brand that can be used for diabetic patients, renal patients and those who want to shed pounds. I want the world to know of this brand as well about Darryl and how God has allowed me to be here to tell of his amazing power and his goodness. Only God could write such a script.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop I would have to take them to. Marcus Samuelson’s New Restaurant for dinner (Marcus Bar and Grill) and a walk along the Atlanta Beltline with stops at some fun places for a drink maybe – like Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall. Then you have to see some iconic Atlanta sites – Oakland Cemetery of course, Little 5 points and a maybe even Centennial Olympic Park. There we can see the World of Coke and even the Georgia Aquarium.

Then we would pop into The Pigalle at Underground Atlanta for cocktails and a burlesque show. Totally fun. Maybe grab dinner at Oretha’s Restaurant by Chef Deborah Vantrece.

Spend a day in Downtown also – taking in the MLK Center, a trip to the Carter Center and we have to grab a photo opportunity at Jackson Street Bridge. Have dinner at The Consulate.

Wrap up the week with a HOT Krispy Kreme Donut and Coffee on our way to shop at Ponce City Market, and maybe catch some live music at City Winery. There is so much to do in Atlanta – I could fill a month.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

From childhood to adulthood, Aunt Amy Jones has been a guiding light in my life. Her unwavering encouragement has been fuel for my journey. She taught me to be true to myself, to stay focused, and to believe that there’s nothing I can’t achieve if I set my mind to it.

From those days of selling newspapers door to door to navigating the challenges of opening and closing businesses, she stood by me, cheering me on every step of the way. Even during the toughest times, including health issues and a transplant, your support never wavered.

Shoutout to Aunt Amy, for being my rock, my mentor, and my source of inspiration. Your belief in me has shaped who I am today, and I am forever grateful for your love and guidance.
