We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryl Johnson, SSYB, CSM and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darryl, how does your business help the community?
The Path: An Agent of Change, Inc. is progressing the fight against systematic racism from our current awareness platform to tangible solutions to change the system. We have a number of human-centric designed projects that focus on the major areas of systematic racism, such as education, healthcare, mental health, and the legislative and judicial system. We used a unique methodology designed by me, the founder.
We help the community and the world by changing it for the better of us all. #trueequality #trueequity
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I founded my nonprofit, The Path: An Agent of Change, Inc. to be an additive to our current attempt towards diversity, equity, and inclusion and to be the mechanism that pushes society from awareness to creating tangible solutions. Our unique methodology is what sets us apart from others. We used design thinking, change management, and scrum project management to cultivate change. We made the concept of change into a product.
As a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, I was a finalist in their first Social Justice Grant, The United by Purpose Grant and that was how The Path got started. We are an additive to all. Therefore, we will work with any business or organization to teach product management from a human-centric point. However, our best contribution is to other nonprofits as we teach and collaborate with you on projects strategically designed to push your product or service to be more effective and productive. We believe that if we can teach others how to be effective, we will accomplish our goal of destroying systematic racism.
Due to social conformity and stigma, it is extremely hard to get all parties to the table without bias delaying or stopping individuals of all races from helping. At the Path, we want to reconcile. We don’t want to hold anyone accountable for the past, we want to hold you responsible for our future. I think that’s where the fear comes in. If I am helping you, I may have to own a horrible past. We, meaning The Path, don’t want that. We truly want love, peace, and equality. Your voice matters in the conversation of designing for diversity.
Lastly, we cannot truly know what we want if we have never seen it. Let that marinate.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Midtown, Midtown, and MIdtown. I am a city boy at heart. I am from New York and love the city. Midtown is clean, full of energy, and somewhat positive. First, we have to go to Eight Sushi Lounge first for a drink and sushi. Then, shopping at Atlantic Station. LAstly, visit an amazing art exhibit at SCAD.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank all the racist people who have motivated my compassion for change. We often don’t understand how our obstacles are our blessings. I have spent a life overcoming unwanted and undeserved struggles to success and it has made me into the powerful black man I am today. So, the people who have influenced my transformation deserve a little credit and recognition because they made my story authentic.
