We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryl Chambers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darryl, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to take an artistic creative career path because I’ve never really been an artsy person, so for me it was about doing something different and tapping into another side of myself to see if I could pull off the challenge as well as to see if there’s more inside of me than I even knew about.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a model as well as aspiring actor (as I always refer to myself as) it’s a job that calls for hard work and dedication and I feel that the difference between me and a lot of people who try to get into the industry is my researching of what it is that I’m trying to pursue from any angle of the industry; I had to learn to research a great deal of things. Another thing that sets me apart from a lot of people I feel is my height and build and appearance; there aren’t too many actors that’s 6’6″ with dreadlocks lol. It was not easy getting to the point that I’m at now, the saying is anything that comes easy isn’t worth having. There’s been obstacles of trying to do more than urban roles as well as to adjust my southern dialect. To overcome these obstacles even at this point I take a nicer, smiling approach anytime that I enter a room which immediately shows that I’m probably different than what most people would expect me to be like. I’ve learned so much along this journey. I’ve learned how important that it is to network. Being in a room with someone who you’ve never met before could be the most important person that you could ever meet. I’ve also learned something that I’ve known for a long time which is to treat everybody with respect and how you would want to be treated because the industry is very small and your name is all that you have. I want the world to know that anything is obtainable if you just put forth the effort and apply yourself; it can be done!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hahaha! If my best friend was visiting the city we would first ride around the city because there’s so much to see at any given time! My next stop would be a Mexican restaurant for Margaritas, I’m not exactly sure which one because I’m still discovering different places haha. Next we would visit Ubar! This is one of my favorite places because I love their wings and drinks!! ($2 Tuesday to be exact). We would take a day to go to Atlantic Station, Little 5 points, and Edgewood just to browse around. The Next thing on the list would be the Trap Music Museum because I’m a lover music we would definitely go there to look around and have some drinks. A concert or entertainment event would also definitely be in the mix.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, family, and true friends.
