We had the good fortune of connecting with Darren Darnborough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darren, what do you attribute your success to?
I think that one of the things we’ve done really well with the brand WeAudition is to keep incredibly consistent with our branding, logo and brand values. I remember trying to define our brand values specifically early on… it’s a tough thing to do, but as you grow the company, innovate and interact with your customers, it becomes a lot clearer. Luckily, the brand values also very much align with the personal values of the myself and my co-founder – that’s no accident – and so it makes things incredibly clear for us when innovating new features, deciding on marketing, or any kind of business policy, or program we design that will ultimately benefit our customers, industry and community. You have to be forward thinking in my mind, but also work to better an industry or customer as a whole, not just for your own bottom line.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a creative person (I’ve also been an actor / filmmaker for many years) I love to start and run businesses, as it allows me to focus on the more logical side of life, and to be of value to more people. It gives me a healthy and productive distraction between my creative pursuits (which I have limited control over) with something that I do have much more control over and that I can see the output and effect of my work more tangibly and linear. I think having that balance is really important. I read a book that discussed how the root of happiness actually lies within progress, progression through something, not the actual thing you achieve. No matter where you are in life, we have this innate desire to be better – that could be materially, spiritually or physically; wealth, success, sporting ability whatever – but what actually gives us the fire is the pursuit of the next stage, the moving up. With business I feel like that is more manageable and balances my creativity perfectly.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have a couple of favorite spots in the city – one of them has to be the beltline, just going for a run or walk along the varied nature is always refreshing. For food, I’m a sucker for Ponce City Market for the vibrancy and variety, or Fat Matt’s Rib Shack for simple BBQ & Jazz. Further afield, I had a beautiful stay at the Ritz Carlton on Lake Oconee which I recommend for a trip out of town.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this shoutout to my amazing business partner Richard Cambridge, as he truly is the most supportive and skillful partner you could go on an entrepreneurial journey with, and then of course our WeAudition community, who keep the idea alive and thriving – without you, we are just software.
