We had the good fortune of connecting with Darren Chambers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darren, how does your business help the community?
Transitional web design is about transforming a business idea, dream, or service into a tangible online platform. Many of our clients have come to us with an abstract idea, and we help them turn that idea into a functioning website or online platform. We specialize in creating custom websites for businesses of all sizes. Whether our clients are a start-up or an enterprise, we can help them achieve their online goals.
We understand that not every business is the same, and that’s why we offer tailor-made solutions. Some businesses serve local clients, others are nationwide. Both of these scenarios take a different strategy to success. We typically focus on helping our community of fellow entrepreneurs in the Atlanta area, but we also have a strong understanding of how to reach a national audience.
Some clients come to us with an existing website that needs to be modernized. We can take an older website and give it new life. We can also work with businesses to rebrand as well. If a business owner is starting from scratch, we normally will consult with them to give them the best practices that we see work every day in business.
Ultimately, we give our community our time, an ear, and serious consideration when it comes to their business ideas.
What should our readers know about your business?
It was not easy to get to where I am today business-wise, and It continues to be an ever-growing process. My company has its core clients that help us get from one month to the next, but it’s been a long road. It was hard to find clients initially, but one of the biggest lessons that I learned was that when you do good work, clients will find you! I thought my work was the best, when in fact, it was only the best “I’d ever done,” but far from the best work. I had a lot of learning to do, and I realized that no matter how much I liked a design, it was ultimately what the customer wanted that mattered. As a creative, I often got caught up in the nuances of art and design when really, it’s about the functionality.
I decided to study top website companies and websites with designs that people can easily use. One thing I noticed about these websites was the amount of whitespace and simplicity. I learned that just because you “CAN” add something doesn’t mean you have to. White space is just as powerful in website design as adding lots of information and functionality. What separates the new website designers from the experienced ones. is knowing when and how to add functionality and design appropriately. Understanding that balance is vital.
We got started because I made a free website for a former employer with faded buttons, and faded buttons enamored me. These buttons had a color gradient that made them pop off the page. We took that idea and ran with it. When it comes to design, being able to fade complementary colors usually looks great. Studies have shown that the choice of coloring directly impacts how users feel about a website when they land on it. Thus Transitional Web Design was born.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love visiting Atlanta whenever I can. First, I take friends to True Foods Kitchen near Lennox mall. After eating, we’d go to the mall for a bit to visit. Then The Atlanta Botanical Gardens has always been a favorite of mine. IF there’s time the next day, we’d hit the Aquarium with those giant Whale Sharks. Then, maybe a stroll through Piedmont Park or Fernbank museum. There are so many things to choose from in Atlanta or just the state of Georgia that it’s hard to focus on one weekend. Typically when friends come to visit, we walk around the city and try different restaurants. New experiences with old friends is usually a great recipe for a good time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has put up with the long nights, back-to-back 14hr workdays, tears, and struggle to start my own business. My wife has been there with reassurance and positivity while I burned the midnight oil, trying to help other businesses succeed online. IF it weren’t for her contributing to our family and sticking by me, I wouldn’t have been able to get as far as I have. I also contribute my success and the opportunities provided to myself and my team to God, who has no doubt been the hearer of many of our prayers.
