We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Weekes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darius, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say the most important factor behind my success is being able to execute and still push my self to learn my craft as a visual artist and designer. After dropping out of college, it was hard to take what I’ve learned and my natural talent into the work force without having some sort of degree to back me up. Because of that, I was able to start freelancing until I was able to encourage myself to start a small e-commerce business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Darius Weekes also known as “Vrtuoso” on my social media accounts. Im a Bronx born self taught artist. I spent most of my youth creating and developing an interest for art. As I got older my passion for the arts grew and branched into different mediums. I create engaging visual pieces through the use of line, color, negative space and form. I enjoy capturing very small details that are usually neglected by the viewer’s eye.

My work specializes in pencil drawings, paintings and digital art. My objective is to gain a position in my line of work which is creating fine art pieces, t shirt designs and logos. I created a personal brand called “Vrtuoso Studios,” to share my creativity and passion with the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Very first place on my list is the art museum. You would see many historical and modern art throughout the years. Another visual entertainment of my choice would be movies and car shows. When it comes to food I love to go to diners or self serve buffets.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One group that I would like to recognize that help/encourage me to reach where I am today is the entire art community! I was so trapped in my own world scared of criticism or not knowing how to promote/ showcase my art. Little did I know, there are many skillful artists that I’ve met along the way that came from the same background or followed the same pathway as me. As an artist, I feel like in order to grow, you have to associate your self with different creatives. You may get a second eye to things, extra hand, encouragement and most importantly a place where our voices through art can be heard.
