We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darius, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I used to draw and paint as kid I wanted people to see my vision. I knew I could go further than acrylics and paper. I focused on figuring out what I wanted to do in high school and found out what graphic design was. I fell in love with creating other people’s visions later down the line. I realized when I was thinking canvas paintings, God was thinking billboards (the bigger picture). Going on 5 years now, I have realized that my gift is not only for me but for others. Creating other people’s vision is not just a tagline. It is an assignment pushed by a creative passion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a graphic designer. You know? Logos, flyers, book covers, etc. It is more than that for me. Anyone can put color and text together and create a logo. What makes me different is the quality of design I present the first time. It’s difficult at times to knock it out the park the first time when I constantly overthink the design or myself in general. Overcoming that forces me to tone the grinding and take it one click at a time. Doing that has helped me learn that the grind can slow down because the creativeness will be there. When the laptop closes at the end of the world will know a true creative graphic designer resides here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Chattanooga for sure. Endless walks on the Walnut St. Bridge lead to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Enjoying the Coolidge Park Fountain, and fresh air is a must. I love fishing and being in the sun so Chester Frost Park or River Park will take up most of the time to have a good time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The ladies of my life, my Wife, Mother, Sisters and Daughters. They give me that extra encouragement, push and reassurance when needed.
