We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Baxter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darius, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
GoodProjects is an organization that is focused on providing basic needs to low income impoverished, primarily communities of color so that they can become the champions of their own story. Ultimately at the end of the day, our work is centered and focused around catalyzing communities and their leadership to tell their own stories and achieving their version of their dreams.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What a lot of people don’t know is I get a lot of recognition for the work I do in philanthropy and the social impact space but I’m actually a huge music junky. I spend a lot of time in my free time listening to music and going out to underground clubs and vibing out. Thats one of the things that keeps me grounded. & actually if you really pay close attention to GOODProjects, you see elements of music & culture and how it shows up in the work that we do, specifically the projects and campaigns that we put forth.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Admittedly first and foremost I always say that my proudest accomplishment is being Stephanie son. The sacrifices my mother made for me as a child, put me in a position to chase my dreams the way I do now. It doesn’t go a day in my life unnoticed. With that being said, the reason my mother had the faith and courage to do that for her sons, is because of the love and support system that my entire family provides. Every single day I have the opportunity to work with my sisters, brothers, mother, grandparents (volunteering at different things) and every Sunday we get together for family dinner, where the whole family comes out. One of the things that gives me the courage to go out their and take a risk to the communities I serve is knowing that at the end of the day if all else fails, I have a whole entire community of people that share a last name with me and will love and support me.
