We had the good fortune of connecting with Daria Kapitanova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since I was little I loved taking photos of other people and it just never clicked that maybe I should pursue photography. I always liked playing around in photoshop too. So a few years ago I’ve decided to get a good camera with an intention to take photos of myself but soon realized that I loved being behind the camera much more. That’s how it all started. I just love how I made people feel when they saw their photos. How happy they seemed during their photo sessions. That’s when I knew I want to keep doing this for as long as I can.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from other photographers is how vivid and colorful my photos are. People have said that my photos look like straight from a fairytale book. And that’s exactly how I want to be recognized. I have done a lot of my dream projects already. Such as Marie Antoinette shoot with cakes, Game of thrones photoshoot, etc. But the project I’m most proud of was my Disney princesses project that took me a year to complete. I have styled and shot all 15 Disney princesses in their costumes during COVID. It was definitely one of the most challenging projects I’ve done but it was so worth it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting Atlanta I’d definitely take them to Fetch dog park first because that’s my favorite spot to hang out at. To eat I would take them to Bartaco because it always has the best atmosphere and the nicest stuff. Then I would take them to Ponce City Market to check out the shops and then the rooftop bar for that sunset view. And later on we’d check out Tongue & Groove because it’s my favorite nightclub and that’s where we’d finish our night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The year I started photography I have attended a lot of styled shoots hosted by Kalyn Barbary aka AWEL planning and events. She introduced me to so many talented photographers, models and other creatives who made me feel so welcome. I think because of her events I truly realized just HOW much I love shooting.
