We had the good fortune of connecting with Darby Dust and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darby, what makes you happy? Why?
Tattooing is the culmination of my life journey. I have always had a passion for body modification and being able to open my own shop in the heart of the area where I have grown and lived for the majority of my life, is a great pride of mine

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My tattooing style reflects the art of the ones who paved the way. I am heavily influenced by artists like Bob Roberts, Greg Irons, Ed Hardy & Sailor Jerry. Opening Renegade Tattooing, I aimed to cater services that reflect the “old world” of tattooing while also providing a modern approach. I have been in the industry for over 15 years, and have picked up different aspects from a wide array of Atlanta artists within that time. I believe that I am always growing, and I look to the past for the inspiration in my work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Aside from the major tourist attractions there are to go to in the city, there are a ton of scattered hidden gems. Several spots around Ponce and East Atlanta have great music and drinks; some of my favorites are the Earl or El Myr. If you’re looking for food, I’d definitely recommend Wrecking Bar, Slutty Vegan or Soba. We’d end off the evening at Clermont Lounge, where my old friend Barbie works. I’ve been fortunate enough to do the majority of her tattooing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Tony Olivas. Tony was an Atlanta based tattooer and owner of Sacred Heart Tattoo for 28 years. I had been managing Sacred Heart and he quickly became my inspiration, and continued to instill in me a reverence and pride in our craft. Tony was one of the defining artists in Atlanta tattooing, and his loss is immeasurabl
