We had the good fortune of connecting with Daquanna Simmons Jamisha Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daquanna Simmons, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We’ve always been heavily into fashion. I, Daquanna, have always been told I should be a stylist, I used to win best dressed every year in high school, and prior to working in the medical field, I went to school for fashion merchandising and graduated with my degree in fashion merchandising. Likewise, despite working in the medical field, Jamisha has also always had a passion for fashion and design. After meeting as co-workers, and building and developing our relationship as friends, we started to think of how we could increase our financial freedom. Both of us being teen moms, our children were a huge influence to not only strive for financial freedom but also freedom from having to clock-in and out, and not being in control of our own time. We considered things from personal styling to event planning, but starting our own online store seemed like a no brainer. In 2017, we launched IHeart Fashion Boutique initially as a hobby, a side hustle, but after seeing what we could achieve, we started to put a greater focus on it to make it what it is today.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets us apart from everyone else is our willingness to know that we have to succeed and that we will succeed. We are always striving to be the best, provide the best to our customers, from quality, prices, customer service, and more. The way our customers perceive and see our brand is very important to us, and we want to make sure they feel confident about our brand and our products. Additionally, just personally, our name and faces are attached to this brand and these products, so we always want to make sure that we are representing ourselves well. The process of starting our online business was not too challenging. We were very knowledgeable on the fashion industry, had a pretty solid idea about what we wanted our brand to be, and had tremendous support from our friends who had already seen success in starting and building their online businesses. The challenge was after starting the business, figuring out how we were going to grow and scale up. We didn’t have doubts, but we did have anxiety trying to figure everything out: what are we putting out next, is this the best quality, how are we going to market this, how are we gaining customer retention? Despite this anxiety, we always kept the attitude that we COULD and WOULD do it, and just kept going. That attitude, just stepping out on faith and doing it, and staying positive and motivated is what got us here today.

We want people to know that IHeart Fashion Boutique is here to stay. We pride ourselves in our brand, our uniqueness, and have confidence that our brand will continue to grow and please our consumers. We actually have something really exciting coming up in the new year, that I can’t give too many details about, but we are super excited and can’t wait to put it out there, so stay tuned for that news!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, our itinerary would look like eating all the time lol. We love to get dressed, look pretty, take pictures and eat good food. We are like old ladies now, we don’t really club anymore but we do love to have a good time. Some restaurants we would recommend are Poor Calvins, Chops Atlanta, and Capital Grille. We might hang out at Ponce City Market or The Avalon. They have great restaurants and little shops. We love shopping and fashion, so we would definitely go to the malls and go shopping. I would also take them to some lounges where we could get some good food and hear some good music, maybe Pasha or Divans.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, we want to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. We have to shout out our team. We have an amazing assistant, Krissy, who goes above and beyond everyday and helps us keep this thing going. Our kids, spouses, and families for their continued genuine support, as well as, our amazing circle of friends who are always there to support our business. Lastly, we would like to shout out all the strangers who have turned friends over the years, who support us, motivate us, and push us to keep going. Their support has been incredibly appreciated and does not go unnoticed.
