We had the good fortune of connecting with Danti Duong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danti, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In a twist of fate, I found myself drawn to the floral design industry and the reason behind establishing La Joie Flowers is also quite serendipitous. I had never imagined before that I would have an interest in flowers and a fondness for floral design as I do now. I started my career as a graphic designer for a small event planning company in Atlanta. One day, the floral design department was short-staffed and needed assistance from other departments, so I stepped in to help. Since that day, the head of the floral design department showed great enthusiasm for my ideas and floral designs, constantly wanting me to come and assist him.And from there, I transitioned to working for the floral design department. I learned a lot from the head of the department and realized how much I enjoyed working with flowers. About a year later, on Valentine’s Day, a friend of mine asked me to help prepare a hand-tied bouquet for his girlfriend. I couldn’t find any flower shops that packaged bouquets the way I envisioned. So, I took it upon myself to hand-wrap and arrange the flowers with meticulous attention, rather than simply using a plastic wrap. I believed that beautifully packaging a gift could leave a lasting impression and express the sender’s emotions towards the recipient. It wasn’t just about the flowers themselves but also about how they were presented. Recognizing the lack of thoughtful floral packaging in current flower shops, I seized that opportunity to create La Joie Flowers and received support from everyone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets La Joie Flowers apart is the meticulous attention to detail. I always strive to imagine myself as a customer with each product I create. I constantly ask myself, “If I were the customer, would I like this? Is it perfect?” This mindset ensures that every detail is carefully considered and that the final product meets the highest standards. I started La Joie Flowers with hand-tied bouquets, flower baskets, and boxed arrangements for special occasions. Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to design flowers for events, particularly weddings. The wedding floral design field is vast, and as an Asian designer who is relatively new to the industry, building a brand and gaining recognition is not easy. However, I believe that being rooted in my Asian heritage gives me a unique perspective and artistic style that sets me apart.
Sometimes, I have doubted whether my products would resonate with the taste of American consumers. However, throughout my two years of focusing on the wedding flower industry, I have come to realize that there will always be a suitable customer for you. Each person has a unique perspective and aesthetic preferences. As long as you pour your heart and soul into creating a product, there will always be someone who appreciates and seeks out your work

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I will take you hiking as it is one of my favorite activities. In Georgia, we have beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls. Additionally, I definitely have to take you to the Coca Cola Museum and Georgia Aquarium, which are famous tourist attractions when visiting Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to express my gratitude to Mark Good, the head of the floral design department at my previous company. He was the one who helped me discover my passion for flowers and taught me the fundamental knowledge of floral design. Next, I want to express my gratitude to my husband, who has been a constant support in all my decisions. He can be described as the problem solver for all matters related to La Joie Flowers, from logistics, organization, and bookkeeping, allowing me to focus solely on floral arrangements. I am truly grateful for his unwavering support and assistance
