We had the good fortune of connecting with Danni Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danni, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Atlanta Curves was that there is a high demand and lack of visibility and representation in the health and wellness industry. Upon graduating from massage school I realized there were no spas that catered to curvy women. When i would travel to different places I too did not see images or representation of women that look like me. I am a black woman and I am full figured, traditionally speaking this is not the images you see in spas. So I decided it was time to change the narrative and create a safe space for women who are shaped like me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Atlanta Curves is the only Plus Size Exclusive Spa. We promote body positivity and we specialize in the relief of pain, stress, anxiety, and holistic solutions for the everyday curvy woman. This is what sets us apart from other Spas. We seek to be a safe haven for our full figured women! So some may ask well what does that look like? It consists of bigger robes (not one size fits all), sturdier tables- ensuring the weight limit is good and the working capacity is good (clients weight + therapist weight & movement), thoughtful seating, ensuring the massage table is wide enough to accommodate the build, targeting certain muscle groups where we would normally hold tension due to our curves and shape. I’ve curated a full experience for my clients to enjoy with all of these small details in mind. Because it’s the small details that matter! I’m excited to see us grow and franchise into other cities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my fav spots would definitely include Cafe Sunflower in Buckhead if I’m looking for a sit down Vegan restaurant. They never disappoint! If I’m doing take out grab and go I frequently visit Chelseas Vegetarian Bakery this is a hidden gem to be honest. They’re conveniently located in Decatur and they provide Vegan Caribbean dishes. And last but not least Spoon Eastside is an authentic Thai restaurant and I could honestly eat their food every week it’s so good. Their customer service is always top tier! So those places are definitely top three for me. Places to visit would definitely include Puttshack, The GA Aquarium, High Museum and the Consolidated Gold Mine. This is where I get all my gemstones from.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My business was birthed shortly after the unexpected passing of my God Mother Shayna Odom in 2019. Shayna was a beacon of light, herbalist, and healer to all. Her wisdom and knowledge helped save many lives, it is truly because of her that I found my gift in using my healing hands. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for her gentle push and unwavering support. So much of my practice and wisdom comes from the teachings of my God Mother. She knew way before I did that I would be in service to help bring healing to others. For that I am eternally grateful.
