We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Boateng and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Before Covid I was on campus (Hampton University) and I couldn’t find the exact shades that I wanted and I was looking around all these websites and they were either to expensive or wasn’t what I wanted. I have been wearing glasses all my life and I was like I should start my own sunglasses company. My little sister always called my danbandz so I was like why not call it DBandz. I wanted to create a luxury sunglasses company that was affordable but also stylish and different. I wanted to create a brand that people were able to relate to. I am a young black entrepreneur and there wasn’t a lot of young black entrepreneurs who sold luxury sunglasses so I wanted to create that space.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m currently a Hampton University Graduate where I studied Business Administration. I am an upcoming entrepreneur where I own DBandz Luxe and I also have another business where I specialize in graphic design and marketing. What I am most proud of is being able to help other businesses with marketing or creating designs to build their brand. I am also proud of being able to have DBandz where it is now today it definitely wasn’t easy but I was able to do it all on my own. Some challenges that I did face with DBandz is being in school running another business and while working all at the same time. It was definitely hard to try to balance all of them at once but I had to learn prioritize my focus and I had to understand that everything takes time and is a learning process. Also I had to learn to fall in love with the process. Also remembering that things will get hard and I will have many setbacks but I can give up because I have remember the reason I started. I want the world to know that you can do anything that you set your mind to and when God gives you a vision (Habbukuk 2:2) focus on it and work hard and it to let it come to fruition. I want to inspire young entrepreneurs who are trying to do what I’m doing and let them know that its a journey but a journey worth going for. With your business there will not be anyone telling you what to do but you. You will have sometimes become the photographer, the marketer, the social media content creater, the model. You just have to be willing to take on all these roles and be consistent for your business to be successful.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to first my best friend Destiny who has always inspired me to be an entrepreneur and who has always pushed me along the way. I will also like give a shoutout to my sisters and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have even started Dbandz and their continuous help and support. Also. a huge shoutout to my mom and brother for always supporting me. Also a last shoutout to Sharese and Melissa for being the biggest supporters of my business I love them so much!
