We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, what do you attribute your success to?
No matter what it is you pursue, obstacle are inevitable. I’ve always viewed these particular moments as the universe testing my will to succeed. Passion has been the vehicle that has gotten me through any momentary lapses in motivation, in discipline, even in perseverance. For myself, I will never lose my passion to immortalize memories through photography. When I capture a moment that is “a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone”.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is I’m a versatile photographer, I can take photos of models, cars and buildings and still be able to quickly adapt. I got to where I’m at today by trial and error, learning from other photographers, taking a bit of each one and implementing into my own. I take online photography classes at least once a month, in order to expand the portfolio, one must be willing to try different techniques and step out of their comfort zone. I remember my first paid gig as a photographer, I went into the building the day before and used a stranger as a model to ensure everything would come out perfect. DMstudi0 began with the idea of making ordinary people into extraordinary people by capturing the essence they’ve never seem themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve had to do this a few times already, Atlanta is a big city with a huge variety of things to do. In the summer I would make sure I included national parks such as Tallulah Falls, Ruby Falls, and Rock City park. I would include local parks such as Piedmont Park, Beltline, Stone Mountain Park and Botanical Garden. Restaurant wise, Forza Storico, Two Urban Licks, Iberian Pig, and Botanico. Last I would take them to the high museum of art, Martin Luther King’s child home. One final photo with the Atlanta skyline on Jackson bridge.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could go on for days naming those whom I feel have had an important role in my success and making my brand to where it is today. But I couldn’t go without naming a few, my dad (Chef Luis Martinez), and Rafael Gimenez from Passio Photography, are some of whom have encouraged me throughout the whole process, friends and people from the community who have given me strength in believing in myself.
