We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work-life balance use to suck lol. Lots of editing, no me-time. And as an artist I enjoy making art, but I didn’t get a chance to do it for fun very often. At the time, when I would create it would either be for work, or promoting work. After a while, it just became the same cycle of trying to avoid burnout.

About a year or so ago I started giving myself off-time, and setting time aside to work on my own projects and things that catered to my interests. I still do lots of editing, but this gave me something to look forward to. As an artist, the personal projects give me the balance I needed creatively, and by allowing myself to “clock out”, I’m able to enjoy who I am a little more, and do better work too. We all just need a lil’ recess in our lives lol.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Because of my career in graphic design, video production, marketing, etc, I’m able to present my art in a way that just feels professional, but still eclectic. When it comes to my art, I’m probably most known for my popular “Kai stickers” that catch people’s eye in the streets and social media streets. The art itself may just look like a cute flower character at first (and it is lol) but Kai is much more than that. Kai is a culture that embraces self-confidence, positivity, compassion and just sharing love regardless of life’s circumstances. The artwork is backed by an Anime-like comic series “Return of the Flower” currently in production, where I provide healing through Kai’s story of getting “back to his roots”. I use nature, and Kai’s adventure to serve as a metaphor for the black experience, as we are getting “back to our roots” as well. Plus, the artwork is dope, with hella colors lol.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re into the arts like me, we make a lot of our own fun here. You can paint at the graffiti wall in Goose Creek, or do a photoshoot at the old naval base. The events are fun, if you do go to an event make sure to look out for Vybrant Alkaline Vegan Meals. Their food is BUSSIN. If you want to catch a vibe and network, follow the events promoted by DJ Norway, DJ Scrib, Shae Balboa, and Kris Kaylin. Follow them, and you’ll find something to get into lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my boy Jamal Tisdale. My guy is also an excellent director and videographer I’ve been working with since early on in my career. Jamal has helped me film, edit, brainstorm and strategize countless projects, and he provides assistance in countless ways on set. With his help, I’ve been able to do much more with my brand, and think a little more clearly lol. Any time I needed an extra battery, memory card, whatever, Jamal always happens to have a spare, coming through in the CLUTCH lol. If you remember Pokemon, I refer to Jamal as my “Professor Oak”, always comin through with the items lol.
