We had the good fortune of connecting with Danae Moya, MBA (neé Vassilopoulou) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danae, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I come from a family with a strong entrepreneurial background, which instilled in me a natural inclination towards entrepreneurship. After completing my MBA at London Business School, I explored various business opportunities while still working in the corporate world, patiently waiting for the right fit. It wasn’t until I crossed paths with my co-founder that everything fell into place.
My co-founder, an accomplished scientist with a PhD in stem cell science, possesses extensive experience from renowned labs, with a track record of research published in top-tier scientific journals. His vision to democratize stem cell technology and provide personalized healthcare solutions resonated deeply with me. This vision became even more meaningful when I reflected on a traumatic experience: almost losing my mother to cancer.
That experience reshaped my worldview and highlighted the critical importance of proactive health management. It motivated me to adopt a proactive mindset to my health, a perspective that aligns perfectly with delphistem’s vision. We aim to empower individuals to take control of their health by storing their stem cells early in adulthood, thereby enabling them to mitigate future health risks and achieve longevity.
In essence, delphistem embodies our bold vision of helping people live 100 healthy years. We’re driven by the belief that preventive and personalized care can revolutionize our approach to our health, and we’re committed to making this vision a reality.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
delphistem was founded with a clear mission: to help people achieve longevity and reach 100 healthy years.
What sets us apart from others in our industry is our pioneering approach. We are the first biotech company to bring life-saving stem cell technology beyond academic and research circles and directly to the public. We are unapologetically people-first, making our stem cell storage service incredibly easy, accessible, and affordable. We take pride in being purely angel-funded so far, meaning that we are supported by investors who believe in the life-saving potential of our technology being accessible to the public.
The road to where we are today has been filled with both challenges and triumphs. Building a fully equipped stem cell and genetic lab on limited funding has been one of our greatest challenges. However, through perseverance, adaptability, and a commitment to our vision, we overcame these challenges by being lean and intentional with every dollar spent.
One of the most valuable lessons we’ve learned along the way is the importance of being selective with our limited resources and intentional with our time. This taught us the importance of prioritization and staying focused on the course.
As for what we want the world to know about us, it’s that we’re fully committed to making stem cell technology easily accessible. Whether people choose to store their stem cells via their employer, a third party, or directly with us, our mission remains the same: to contribute to the wellness and health of our communities.
Our journey has been a testament to the power of determination, creativity, and collaboration. We’re excited about the future and remain committed to making longevity and reaching 100 healthy years the norm for everyone. Thank you for your interest in our brand and for allowing us to share our story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would recommend starting with a stroll through the historic neighborhood, followed by dining at local favorites such as Bar Taco and Barcelona Wine Bar. Exploring the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail is a must for scenic views. I always suggest to make time to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site and, weather permitting, enjoy outdoor activities at Stone Mountain Park. Additionally, indulging in food and drink tours around Inman Park’s vibrant culinary scene is highly recommended. With pleasant weather, a visit to Freedom Park and Piedmont Park is a must, ensuring to experience the neighborhood’s cozy bars and charming bistros along the way.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m incredibly grateful for the support and influence of several key individuals and groups in my life:
My Family: My family has been my rock, instilling in me important principles and values from a young age. Their unwavering support and encouragement have empowered me to pursue my dreams and have taught me the value of hard work, consistency, and resilience.
My Husband: I’m fortunate to have a partner who not only supports me but celebrates and embraces all aspects of who I am. His unwavering belief in me fuels my confidence and drive in both our personal and professional endeavors.
My Network of Friends, Mentors, and Co-workers: Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with inspiring individuals who have become mentors, friends, and co-workers. Their guidance, wisdom, and shared experiences have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. From navigating challenges to celebrating achievements, they’ve provided invaluable support and insight that continue to shape my entrepreneurial journey.
Our Angel Investors: Last but certainly not least, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our angel investors. From day one, they believed in our vision and provided the support and resources needed to turn our dreams into reality. Their confidence in our venture has been a driving force behind our success, and we’re incredibly grateful for their belief in us.
