We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Yarn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dana, what matters most to you?
Honesty is the most important value to me personally. I firmly beleive If you are honest with who you are, your goals, vision, and the way you handle your business things will not get complicated. The client and relationship will be up front and everyone will know exactly where they stand. As a business owner I believe that if I treat my clients with respect and I am honest with them about their purchases, schedule, goals, etc. then they will treat me the same way. Operating with integrity and honesty is the only way to have a peace of mind and long term success as an entrepreneur.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner and operator a a fitness boutique, Lifemoves Studio. We offer Pilates, Yoga, Barre, TRX, Aerial, Strength training, nutrition therapy, acupuncture, massage and health coaching. I think what sets us apart is we do not operate off of a rigid franchise business model, the owner (me) is there daily teaching and interacting with clients, and we have multiple offerings, there are several fitness studios who only offer a few modalities, we are a one stop shop offering classes or private sessions of Pilates, yoga, barre, strength, core, functional, flexibility, cardiovascular exercise.

It was not easy, we worked very hard to build a good reputation in our community and we opened at a great time when there was not much competition around us. Over the years we have developed a community/client base of loyal people who have helped us grow. I have made a promise to myself to never get complacent, I always want to grow and keep our programs fun, exciting, cutting edge and most important results driven.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love supporting local small businesses, including coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques or outdoor adventures. I think both Tequila Mama locations are so fun and the food is great! I love Still Fire Brewery in Suwanee, Paddle Boarding on Lake Lanier is a great time both hard work and relaxing. I enjoy all the local parks for quick hikes or bike rides like Tribble Mill or Little Mulberry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother and father have been a huge part in my business success. I can remember my father who was an extremely successful corporate salesman taught me all the “old school” theories of building relationships and educating clients instead of “hard selling.” He would do mock interviews with me when I was trying to find a job right out of college, he also helped me write my resume and when I got into corporate fitness sales he coached me on how to use my strengths during consultations, rather then the corporate script they encouraged. That mindset has got me to the point that I do not think of myself as a sales person because I am so passionate and excited about my studio’s programs and offerings I do not have to convince or sell people on what we do, they typically are ready to join our amazing community.

My mother kept me very busy as a young teenager, encouraging me to utilize my skills to get involved in lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons, group fitness classes, waiting tables, etc. Having a packed schedule was a great way to teach a teen about time management and multi-tasking when needed. I feel like I am very efficient with my time and that comes in handy as a small business owner. As a parent of pre teens and a teenager I admire how my parents taught me work ethics, money and time management skills. Things were earned not given to us and that builds good character.
