We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dana, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was inspired by own experience and overcoming homelessness. It wasn’t until I was on my own that I felt isolated, helpless, and hopeless until there was someone who showed me the ways of transition. I experience a short stint of homelessness after college and even in school I was led to assist those who were unsheltered and underprivileged. It started with a school project and after my own experience fueled a purposeful non profit organization named the Queens Project whose core mission is to alleviate world hunger and poverty while providing transitional services to the underserved and unsheltered in communities worldwide.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m most proud of my enthusiasm and passion for serving others. I am very hard working and dedicated to elevate in every aspect of my endeavors. I would be lying if I told you it was easy. My goal has always be the best i can be, but where there are mountains there will be valleys. I’ve learned to never give up, and seek assistance when needed, you don’t have to work alone, and there is always FREE resources somewhere. We must always be humble and know we are one paycheck away from being a brother or sister on the street begging for a next meal or somewhere to stay! Be grateful and always be willing and able to help someone in need. Serve with the heart of God and always be empathetic even when sympathy runs out!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hey best friend, I have a couple of hot spots to go to in Richmond, Va. We have a spoken word spot called Versus where the dopest creatives link up on Tuesday’s . Of course we are foodies so I would definitely take you to my favorite soul food joint called, Crocker Spot. There are also fresh art exhibits at The Well. And if you would like some night life there are plenty of bars to hit up in Shockoe Bottom.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My earthy mother Rhonda Joyner, my God mother, Kelly Arrington, my sistar Isna Tianti and my tribe whose always been so supportive!
