We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Dorris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dana, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
No one knows the local community like a local! Being born and raised in North Georgia has allowed me to see the heart of our community, and now I have the ability to give back. I grew up in the small town of Acworth Georgia, and living here all of my life has enabled me to connect with the people of our area. A philosophy here in our community is “you have to love on the people in your own backyard”, and experiencing this culture gives me the opportunity to be a friend to my clients. It is a great feeling to serve the community where I live, work, and play.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As I reflect back on my career, it is very obvious that each position I have held has been a steppingstone to the next. 19 years ago, I started as an insurance agency owner and grew my business to multiple locations before ultimately selling my business to work in a corporate role. My primary responsibility in my corporate position was to teach insurance agents how to be successful. Using my applied and gained knowledge, I have been able to combine those two experiences to launch an independent agency (along with two amazing partners) in Emerson, Georgia.

I don’t think life is easy by any means, but I believe you gain knowledge through every circumstance that helps carry you through. It is by hard work and determination that I have been able to be part of other agencies across the country that have helped me be successful. Collaboration is one of my favorite business practices, as a leader, because collaboration with others opens your perspective to see all sides of every situation. It creates a work environment that is enjoyable for everyone, as everyone knows they have a voice that matters.

I want the world to know that insurance is secondary to us, as the people come first. We take the consultant part of our name seriously and want to be sure that not only are we serving our clients and community, but we are educating them by building value in our brand. We want to build conversations that lead to empowerment for our clients, so they know what their protection means. We want our clients to not only feel confident in our services but also in their knowledge of them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In our small town of Emerson, we have A LOT going on! I would recommend they come into town on the second week of December. We would start off by having a delicious breakfast at Doug’s Place in Emerson. Doug’s has been around since the 90’s and is an institution for the North Georgia area. They will serve up a traditional southern breakfast with amazing basics like eggs and bacon, or to satisfy your sweet tooth, you have the option of homemade cinnamon rolls and pancakes. For lunch, we would visit St. Angelo’s at Lakepoint and have their amazing pizza followed by some bowling, blacklight golf, or fun in the arcade. For dinner, we would take a short drive to Cartersville and eat at the legendary Appalachian Grill, where everything on the menu is outstanding. We might catch a play at the grand theater, do some shopping in the town square, or drive back down to the LakePoint Sports center and watch the Harlem Globetrotters play at 7PM.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s really hard to pin-point one person because there are so many people that have influenced me over the years. If I had to choose one person to spotlight, it would be my husband, Jeff Dorris. He has supported me through every decision, and every single thing I have done or wanted to do. I would not be where I am at today without his constant support and encouragement.
