We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Matha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In retrospect all of the things I’ve been interested in and pursued have all been “high risk’. From being a professional football player, a WWE Superstar, Skydiver, Actor, and Entrepreneur, it all would be considered “risky”. However Ive wired myself to look at things from the point of view of “look what could go right if I do this, rather than what could go wrong.” One thing that is undeniable is lady death is coming for us all, and when she comes for me do I want to go kicking and screaming wishing I would have done more? Or do I want to go at ease with a big smile on face knowing that I left it all the line and I had nothing else to give during this life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As far back as I can remember I’ve had a vision of who I wanted to be. The problem was it didn’t align with my environment and the people in it. Physical fitness/sports was something I gravitated towards at a young age. Structure, discipline, achievement were all things I yearned for. Growing up in a trailer park across the street from the projects there wasn’t much discipline or structure, and there weren’t any people around to help me achieve my vision. However that environment was the fire that ignited my drive to pursue something more than what I was. I was fortunate to find mentors through athletics who guided me to where I needed to go. Physical fitness was the first introductory into self development. Seeing that if I just showed up everyday and gave effort i would get results. The first time I saw my muscles get bigger, my squat go up, and performance on the field enhance, I was addicted.

I started finding success in the gym, which transferred over to the field, which then led to Division 1 scholarships coming my way left and right. Committed to the university of Pittsburgh, transferred from there to the University of Indiana Pennsylvania, where I became a collegiate All American. From college I made it to the profesional ranks, NFL (Cincinnati) and CFL(Montreal). From Montreal a dream took me off to the WWE were I performed in rings all around the world under the name Dorian Mak. Crazy to think this all started from a vision of who I wanted to be and a barbell.

On paper is the only place all of these achievements happened linearly. There were plenty of set backs. Broken bones, torn ligaments and surgeries added adversity to my journey. However with each set back was an opportunity for me to learn new skills to access what was wrong, heal it and prevent it from happening again in the future. Which became a skill in itself not to look at “set backs’ or “failures’ from keeping me from pushing forward with a growth mindset, and thank god I learned that skill and dealt with all those adversities along my way because I was about to run into my biggest one yet.

March 28th, 2020 I was driving home on a beautiful Florida day. The big bright Florida sun, which was orangish red this day, was approaching the horizon. I approach an unfamiliar intersection. I remember thinking to myself, “This is a strange intersection”. Next thing I remember I am waking up on the concrete. 3 people standing over top of me, an ambulance off in the distance, and chaos all around. That memory slips away and the next one that slips through is me in the ambulance, strapped to the stretcher head to toe, with a paramedic explaining to me that I was in an accident. I was ejected through the front window of my car and that they believe my neck was broken.

I was rushed to Orlando Trauma. A team was waiting for me to run every test known to man. They poked, proded, scanned every part of my body. Waiting for the results which felt like an eternity. Finally a doctor walked into the room and said “Dude, I don’t know who you are or where you are from but there is nothing wrong with you.”

I was admitted to the hospital that night at 7PM and walked out of the hospital the next morning at 11:30am. Though I was unscathed absent some road burn I did not walk out that hospital the same person I was the day before. No, I was fundamentally different from that day forward, as if I was given a new lease to view the world through. What changed is a different topic for a different time, however one of the things I took way was that I needed to help others.
Through years of trial and error, I have acquired this ability to train and prepare my body and mind for whatever comes my way. But -what good is knowledge if it cannot be passed on?

This is what sets me apart from others. I have all the answers to the test, and I want to share them with those who are willing to learn. I can help people become confident by revealing their capabilities to themselves. Everyone wants to look good but looking good comes from feeling good, and feeling good comes from being healthy; in mind, body, and spirit. 22 years of training experience, on top of being tutored by the top sports scientist in the world, Ill guide you through your customized program that will build you a foundation that will last you a life time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where to start? So many people have played a major impact on me becoming the man i am today. However I’d like to dedicate this shout out to OG Vee the founder of PT Cross Training, an Elite Boutique Strength & Conditioning. Vee has more business than I can keep up with. JuuiceAtl a premium organic juice company, MMA gym, real-estate and more. Vee is always in motion, non stop and that motion consists of him building his empire or him helping teach others how to build theirs. He has his finger prints on so many young entrepreneurs. Some who have made it big time and others who are about to break through. He has been an inspiration to be around and to learn from. Vee’s motto is “Its never too late to be great” and honestly that really resonates with me. I myself am on this never ending journey of self development and I feel fortunate to have made friends with a man like him.
