We had the good fortune of connecting with Damond Nixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Damond, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As I was officially done with school. I decided that it was my business to make my own source of income. School does not teach real life business tools so I was on my own. I quickly figured out that music was going to be my way of providing for myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a producer first but I will record music at some point. I started out trying to record but I fell in love with the process of producing the tracks that I wanted to record on previously. This process has been 3 years in the making and I am so close to the next step. I have dealt with everything under the sun. Wanting to stop only comes from not remembering why you started. For anyone reading this. Take your time. Enjoy all the steps because you cannot go back. Every single day counts.

My brand, Area44 is more than music. It is a way of life behind Area44. Peace is priortized in Area44. Whatever needs to be done to keep the peace is what we are all about. I have a tattoo of the Yin and Yang symbol which is in the Area44 Logo. My life has been me balancing myself and ones around me. I was born on Wednesday and I am Libra. I am born for this.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to myself for not giving up. It was ultimately my decision to keep going. I thank all of my family and past friends for helping me realize who I am.
