We had the good fortune of connecting with Damon “D-Blue” Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Damon “D-Blue”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When my wife and I got married the DJ we hired was pricey and did what I felt was a mediocre job. So over time I noticed that when we attended events the entertainment was subpar. I had a cousin who was really into music but more recording and producing rather than DJing. So I got in the studio with him and learned the different equipment and programs. I initially started recording and overtime as my equipment grew and family and friends asked me to play at small events I realized I liked it and I was good at it. It was at this point I started taking larger gigs and watching other DJ’s at events. There was clearly a need in the Athens area so this was the start of Blue Up Entertainment LLC.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets Blue Up Entertainment apart from the others is my history. My background is creating music. For years I worked with artist across various genres of music including writing, recording and producing. My love of music made the decision easy to want to DJ but breaking into the business was not easy. I was lucky to have people in my corner that knew the business. The most valuable lesson I have learned is everyone is not on your side. The lesson that has kept my business growing is versatility. I can DJ for any crowd, whether it’s a backyard barbeque or corporate event. What I want the world to know is Blue Up Entertainment is your go to company for entertainment and uplighting services. “I’M YOUR FAVORITE DJ FAVORITE DJ”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are a few spots around town that I enjoy but my favorite is entertaining at home. Let’s check-out the itinerary for the week…
Meals: Breakfast at home
Lunch at various spots around town
Dinner at Sabrina’s house (my wife’s best friend can really cook)
Hang-out Spot: Drinks and wings at Beef O’Brady’s, Margaritas and loaded nachos at LaFiesta
Good food with good people: On my back patio, speakers blaring “southern soul”, smoke coming from the grill, and glasses filled with Blue Line Wine 6 (my homemade wine)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I first want to give ALL thanks to God for waking me up each day and allowing me to take care of my family and do the things I love. I also want to recognize my Team: DJ 2W, DJ KD, Adrienne and Javian. Together we make each event memorable for the people that book us.
